My dremel stylus died on me. I don't even know what a capacitator is?! Could you please direct me to exactly the product that I need to but, and possibly provide me with more in depth instructions?

Cindy, someone would need to examine your Dremel Stylus in order to know exactly what is wrong. It may not be the capacitor, why do you believe it might be the capacitor? If your Dremel Stylus is still under warranty, you should return it to the store from where you bought it, or, if you bought it on-line, you should contact the retailer who sold it on-line and ask what to do next. Does your stylus plug into an outlet when you use it? Or is it cordless? It may be that the battery has finally died. Capacitors are used in a range of devices but there is a very special type of capacitor that is used with corded appliances to start a motor turning and a different capacitor to keep it running. Motor capacitor Until it can be determined exactly what is wrong with your Stylus, no one will be able to give you exactly the help you need. Have you checked the fuse in the plug? Also, have you checked if the Dremel runs in a different outlet? If you plug it in and adjust the speed control and listen carefully, does it hum at all? Or is there no sound at all? When you have finished with it, do you put it away? Do you wrap the cord around the base? Could the cord have been damaged? You need to carefully feel along the length of the cable until you reach the end or you reach a point in the cable where it does not feel the same. Hold up the cord and loop it loosely between your thumb and first finger. Make a loop about 3 inches across. move the cord to make a fresh 3 inch loop. If at any point the curve in the loop looks a bit pointy, the cord may have failed. There are so many things that could go wrong. As you have mentioned that you do not know what a capacitor is, it may be a good idea to take it to a repair shop. Ask them for an estimated cost to repair and to tell you what happened. They should not charge you for an estimate. If they do, it should only be a small amount. 5-10. I have successfully repaired several Dremels but I am an electronics graduate. If you find out what the repair shop suspect might be the problem, come back here and post more information. If I remember correctly, you will probably need a special Torx splined screwdriver to open the case if the fault is inside. Don't buy anything just yet. And don't go to just one repair shop, try two or more. If they all say similar things for the fault, then we can sort this out. Hope this helps.

Are Cordless heavy duty

I would not consider a cordless Dremel to be heavy duty. I have a corded one and I ca do a lot more with it than I would try with cordless.

How do I change to the smaller chuck size?

In your kit, you will find some collets to hold the smaller bits. Unscrew the cap, insert the collet and replace the cap. Inset the smaller bit and tighten the cap. The collets have slots cut into them so they can tighten down on the bit.

Why wont my dremel turn on??

1st ck to see that outlet has power on it by using a known good light (drop lights work great for this) next if tool is plugged into a foot pedal or speed control remove this and connect direct to outlet , activate switch on tool see if it runs if not you most likely have a dammged brush on tool <this is very common i usually go thru two sets a year , brushes are available for dremels where ever dremel brand bits and tools are sold ck on back of package for your model number if doing a lot of sanding or grinding allways make a habbit of blowing out air vents on tool body with a strong source of compressed air (canned air ok) this helps keep it going for years

My dremel stylus nut wont hold the dremel collet even after following the correct procedure to change collet what can I do?

Perhaps the best thing to do is get a second dermal tool with the appropriate size nut. I saw where Harbor Freight had kits for as low as ten dollars.

Dremel while runnibg cuts out if i wiggle the case

Hi it sounds like you have a brush worn out. I would change out the brushes first and go from there. Brushes are relatively cheap and it is a good investment to check out first. You can get brushes from almost any hardware store that sells Dremel parts and accessories.

Dremel rotary tool variable speed, low speed speeds up after short use. Will brush replacement solve this issue?

How stable is your line voltage? The SCR phase control used for speed control is more sensitive to line voltage changes at low speeds than at high speeds. Brushes should be changed when they are worn down to about 1/2 of their original length. Much more than this and they don't have enough tension to properly contact the commutator ring. Check with power off when the tool is cold and slowly turn the chuck by hand to feel the resistance. Run it a while and let the bearings warm up. Turn off power and turn by hand again. If it feels looser when warm (which would cause it to speed up at slow speeds), the tool might need to be disassembled and bearings oiled. I use Dexron automatic transmission fluid to lube most motors. Wipe down any excess.
