Not completely. If the O2 sensor fails entirely, the car should go into "limp mode", which is a minimal but functional control mode. In "limp mode" you should be able to drive the car as necessary to get it somewhere someone can fix the problem. Otherwise, the car may leave you stranded in the middle of Death Valley, where you'd die. You're getting an O2 sensor code?
