Chances are that it is still remembering an old password somewhere in the properties... dig through the options an properties to see if there is a place to enter a password that may be overriding the one you are entering when you try to connect. I know it sounds wrong, but I've run into this before on Windows 7 laptops and have found a previous password embedded in the properties that (once the correct password is entered there) solves the problem.

Make sure the power setting does not allow the ethernet card to be shut off. Also look through the other settings on the ethernet card properties menu. Some of those affect the stability of the connection. You access the setting through device manager.
