You should only need to connect the red yellow and white wires to the TV. Make sure your TV is set to the aux input/video input. Sometimes this is a channel, sometimes you have to change the video source. There might be a dedicated button on your remote for this. I believe your TV is only standard definition (non HD).

Check the format of recording on the disc you inserted in now. Check with an other known disc, and see the result. If both shows the same fault, check the picture setting by entering DVD menu.

A flickering screen and or lines and or black bars at the top and bottom of the screen are signs that you need to replace any small electrolytic capacitors that are near the horizontal and vertical output transistors. any that are on the board on the back of the CRT and possibly capacitors in the high voltage section of the board. This is a cheap maintenance that is wise to do before any expensive parts go.

These lines are called vertical retrace lines. Thin white lines will be seen the entire screen, at about one inch apart or so, and will be slightly standing position.
