Double click on the little speaker icon on the Desktop toolbar at the bottom right of your screen. The volume control window will open. Click on options then properties. Next check the small round recording button. Now make sure he microphone box is checked then click ok. Now a window will open that will show your microphone recording level. Move the slider up about half way and make sure to check the small "Select" box near the bottom of the slider. Open up sound recorder or whatever application you are using and try to record. If this does not work I would get an external microphone plug it into your laptop and try recording again. If the external mic works then I would think that you internal microphone is not working. There are some very cheap external mics on the market that sound very good. If you are doing any serius recording you may want to invest in a USB microphone. The USB mic should come with it's own software and setup should be pretty simple. I hope I have been helpful.

Replace your speakers if they are external by plugging in some headphones or something. If this does not resolve the issue look to the sound card in the computer.

Download and reinstall all sound card drivers for your computer/sound card. If this does not fix the issue, look to replacing the sound card.

Inspect your computer to see if has a hole somewhere that might look like a microphone. If you want to find out for sure open up your windows sound recorder from Start - Program - Accesories - Entertainment. Hit the record button and talk or yell something if you would like. You should see recorded sound wave in the middle of your sound recorder. If you do not see the recorded waves this might mean that your microphone is turned off. Put computer set-up cd in drive and reload audio drivers...

2 things to check.

1. Make sure if speakers have a power adapter that it is plugged in. That should give you the green light.
2. Where the speakers plug into the computer there are multiple places in a row to plug it in. One is a microphone input, one is audio input, and 2 are for speakers (depending on the sound card you have). Try plugging it in different ones to see if sound works.

It got an inbuilt memory of 64 MB and it got expansion slot to expand the memory.

It's more than likely your audio device driver. You may need to install or update the driver before the audio will output sound, or a speaker icon can be added to your systray.
Tell us in more detail about your computer system and we may be able to point you to the driver for download.

There is a wire coming from the back of the moniter( a 3.5mm jack). You will have to plug it into your computers back. It will a green coloured slot. If that dosn't solve the audio driver in you pc is missing, then you wil have to install it. If you tell me the model details, i will send you the driver files.Kindly accept my solution if it proved helpful.

Check mic level in sound card or properties, make sure mute is off.

try downloading the latest sound drivers or updated laptop drivers from HP Compaq website and install them. It is most probably a driver issue.
