Perform recovery using HP recovery manager.i.e. Press F11 during boot up and it will take you to the HP recovery manager.


HP and Compaq Notebook PCs are configured with a recovery manager or recovery media that enables you to repair or reinstall the original operating system. Depending on the model of the notebook PC, there may be a recovery CD or DVD included, or your model may have the Recovery Manager tool to create a personal recovery disc. You can also order a replacement recovery disc from HP.

try to use nero or roxio to burn your disk
ths may be more helpful than windows media

You can play a DVD movie disc on your DVD player provided the Region code on the disc is the same as the Region code that is configured on the DVD player.
To play DVDs from any region the player needs to be a region free player or youneed to install a region free program on your notebook/computer.

You only can change this setting 5 times, then it is locked. You can not change the Region code after this even if you reinstall Windows, or move the drive to another computer. You can try upgrading the Firmware for the drive from the Compaq / HP Support page for your product. If that does not work, you will need to replace the drive, or download and install a Region Free software like AnyDVD or DVD Region Killer.

I had the same problem, to solve it I repeat the installation and when the message "Setup was unable to create the program folder" I went to installation directory "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio" and I made a copy of the whole directory to another location in my hard drive. Then I back to installation screen and I accepted the message box. As it was expected original installation folder disappeared. I restored installation folder from the copy I had made previously. At last I created a short cut to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\Common\MSDEV98\BIN\DFDEV.EXE" and started Visual Fortran from this shell without any problem. If the notebook doesn't have a PS/2 port then you would have to use a USB mice, or purchase a PS/2 to USB converter so you can use your old mouse on this notebook

plz try by reinstalling the ethernet driver, if the problem is not solved then check with a working lan cable.if your ethernet card is working with another lan cable then your ethernet card is faulty other wise your cable is faulty.

No it only has a CD read write and a DVD Rom player READ ONLY.

It seems you don't have any codecs... The problem is not in windows media player. Just install a codec pack like http://www.free-codecs.com/download/codec_pack_all_in_1.htm Hope to solve your problem.

Assuming you have iTunes installed....

Connect iPod, when iTunes opens, you can go to File ---> Add File to Library (or press Ctrl+O), find the music file on your harddrive, highlight, and click ok. You can then manage the id3 tags (Genre, Artist, etc) by right-clicking on the song, and selecting "Get Info"

I had the same problem. While rebooting the laptop the screen would be on for a few seconds after it finished rebooting then the display would go black. If you looked very carefully at the screen you could see the image was there but there was no light behind the screen to make the image visible. I removed the black plastic display bezel cover that goes around the edge of the display screen to check out the lights and wiring. I found a small magnet that belongs inside the display bezel had fallen out of it's slot in the plastic bezel and was stuck to the inverter pcb (printed cicuit board). To fix this problem I secured the magnet into it's slot inside the display bezel with a bit of glue. After fixing the problem and putting the display bezel back together the laptop worked normally. This magnet is how the laptop knows the lid is closed. When the laptop is closed the magnet is moved closer to a magnetic switch on the inverter pcb and activates the switch. The laptop thinks it is closed and shuts off the lights behind the display screen. When the magnet fell out of it's slot and stuck to the inverter it activated the magnetic switch all the time whether the laptop was open or closed. This caused the laptop to think it was closed and shut off the lights behind the dispaly screen as soon as the reboot finished.

You probably need to update or inatall a driver for your sound card. If your Compaq came with the Creative Sound Blaster you can get the driver from www compaq.com or from Creative.com If not you have to find the model number for your sound card

Windows 7 is an beta version. you cant find drivers for that beta version yet
