lost, wow a CRT that even glows at all , and you wonder why its dem the electron gun cathodes get weaker every day of its life. all CRTs do that, not one or even TVs using CRT the red gun always goes dim first so we crank it up in the OSD. if it fails on all PCs, the monitor is bad, a 5 min test. and bingo then if the monitor is known bad then what. the OSD screen ever seen that, and the front panel key marked MENU/? go there and play with brightness, and even the electron gun tuning, the page for that is RGB, Red Green blue. adjust them so white looks OK. but if all are dim, that is normal for old CRT, we only get like 3 folks a year stuck in 1990s... or older. the labor to fix it is 3 times a new LCD LED display. land fill time. like the other billion made, and scrapped

where is the LED< you never said. (exactly) monitor or PC, ? you posted a laptop to a forum called monitors which is it, a laptop , desktop or only a monitor.? toss coin, land LT. 2700 (legacy relic with square screen floppy and windows 98 first ones) take out the battery , the big one, it must run forever on AC power pack or its a hardware problem. Next do the HP long reset. all batteries, out, now. (bottom big, right rear, out) power pack out. disconnected., push the power button from 10 to 30 seconds, this is the HP classic, long reset in every manual they make and on there service page, 1st thing. next is power pack, if still dead. the goal is getting the F10 key BIOS to work first. it must work at all times at power on power button on , hammer f10. and see bios if fact it told you to press F10 for 16 years now, every day. 2001 laptops have zero value. now. zero. upgrade to 2008 is better, put this one in he trash. go to goodwill store upgrade for $20? windows 7 clean fresh install or what,? is it the ms win7 downloaded ISO new or some old ISO missing all SP and all 350 updates, only the new ISO is ok to use or nothing but bad awaits. is this web mail if yes, what is the browser (hundreds exist) IE? what is ymail.? ahhhhhh its yahoo.(With an odd interface) can i assume you use the ymail web log in and not run a local client email app>? big difference there. btw ymail is now officially dead. As far as I can tell, the Presario 2100 dates back to 2003. If that really is true, then you are better off replacing it with something newer, since it isn't worth the money it would cost to even replace the keyboard, let alone any other parts that may be necessary.

VISTA? those are called flash codes and have meaning! the screen never once shows TEXT or HP /Compaq logos. right? nothing to me means just the the TEXT IS GONE "hit ESC to enter setup" or F2,F10,,etc.... carbon14 dated by me at 2008, ? (MY HP has F1 info page shows day made, a BIOS page F1) The year mATTERS. steps below. for dead pc. means screen dead, and BIOS keys dead.

1. take the battery main out, they short, remove it ;after all you can run like that for ever on the line pack, a fact. so do so now.
2. does it power on, seems yes, does it stay on? (heard and seen)
3. does the fan blow< spin and not packed solid in lint?
4. use flash light pointed at screen , turn PC on the use the flashlight see data now? yes, bad black lamps CCFL, ask
5. beep codes or caps lock flash codes,? write them down and tell the helper what the are? its code. like Morse code.
6. there are more tests. does the CD eject button work?

my wild guess, (unseen by me) is the CCFL lamps are dead. the LCD on this PC has lamps for the back lamp that all burn out at 20k hours of usage. (short lived, if used constantly) other tests are: ask

• boot from free linux disk see of screen works?
• replace coin cell battery they usually don't last 10 years. 7 max.
• power pack bad and is weak, some fail weak
• keep in mind black screen failures have many causes.
• bad power, bad screen, shorts inside the pc, bad RAM.
• also the GPU chips in 2008 were bad, defective, solder ball failures. making the screen dead or very odd.

HP also modified the BIOS to their needs, making generic lookups on say Award BIOS useless.. ouch. The older the PC the worse this gets, books covering that.

forget Sony this is not SONY at all its HP./MS and Epson. only. lost the epson install disk/? what OS> windows/ what ? XP the CQ60 is very very old PC notebook. and then getting the software from EPSON. matching your OS and the manual to install it is it USB connected, you never said. direct or via external usb hub,(bad) there are many causes. 1: OS corrupted, XP loves to do that 2: XP and vista are now dead, so the driver updates are dead. 2b: that means you must load all the old software by hand. 3: step 2 in the users guide tell you insert CD and install the software. do that, ? re-install all that? i went to epson.com my guess is they do NOT support legacy products they sold at all. not even for XP. print Q (queue) what error,? only this matters now and printer status lamps. does the self test pages work? does the printer status leds show errors, if yes printer its self is bad. ink problems, etc. jams, yes xp has bugs in the queue manager, (tricky to fix, can do) $20 is cheap good rate for help... such a deal ! CFFL lamps dead, or its inverter, 99% on CCFL tubes. bad. all screens this old do that, they have short life... why not upgrade , go to used PC store get any PC there, 2010 or newer, that has no CCFL (has LED back lamps) and a future. best is one with W7 COA sticker on bottom. XP aND vista ARE DEAD OS now, not safe at all on the internet nor does PnP work now, at MS.com why even mess with old tubby CCFL laptops? carbon14 dated at 1999 , (as old as) its 18 years old. most are in the land fill, 99% or more. or shipped to N.korea for CAUSE.

its and HP, HP owns COMPAQ, all of it. for vast years. well it can only be these reasons, on this very old PC. its now not supported then you post lacking what OS you are running, making accurate answers impossible , so go to GENERIC mode. my guess the virus magnet called XP with zero support for 3 years./

2. the wifi car is bad, seen many bad this old, it happens.
3. BIOS has it turned off, sorry there are no bios books to answer that now, HP deleted them due to too old. after 10 years.
4. The software for the wifi , is 2 fold, the wifi driver must be good and the driver that makes the amber button must be good.
5. by good, it must match the OS you run. unstated by you.

that amber means 2 things, im in airplane mode, (no its dead.) means the driver is dead, or the chip is dead. or.... the chip will be dead if BIOS has it DISABLED in all cases. was this the real model>??? CQ62-215DX if you study PCs and for sure study chips in them you learn fast that the wifi card (or minipci ) or what ever is there can be made by many suppliers. Intel,,Realtek, , Broadcom, and more. (tedios but works) 4: remove all hatches, find the wifi card, read the name on it, , now you know what it is so the driver match is easy, 5: PNP it. (using the internet) 6: use the F11 key a powerup and reload the whole OS from scratch,and bam it works (bios not off) keep in mind PNP cant work unless, you have internet., wifi dead, is no internet so PNP is dead. easy no? if you used a ethernet cable from LT to your router, bingo? and then saw gee i got internet now. and then did wifi update in device manager you might get lucky. luck happens, but with XP , rare. im sure the DM , device manager shows the wifi dead. why not post saying OS first. then ask for wifi fix help and have and ethernet cable in your and first. or other pc to get drivers. there is no other way. looks like 5 chips used on 1 PC. see? see that ? its always a problem this I neversweat this. I love posts that use haywire words... really. old Cq61 (310us) is it a 310? for sure, as the service tag shows? no photo of screens, i can promise you that missing photo is worth 1000 words ! does it run with them main battery out on line power AC? it must for as long as you want too. my guess, besides above test 1 on all laptops is to make sure its not overheating. and fan blows, and fan is not packed in lint if the GPU chip overheats it can go nuts. all can,. we run temp monitor program that lets me see all that. but im not teaching that now. this PC has an LED screen so is very good. but if hit, they break easy, super easy. kids playing thowing things at the screen or dropped PC. The pC has and external VGA jack to test the PC on any VGA desktop monitor.. (barrow one for a day)

old PC,, Cq series. cq62-nnnnn you left off the nnnnnn cq62-100, 200 ,300 what? running mS windows 8 HP does not support W8 on this PC so that means you are on your own steam... (you , it and microsoft 100%) forget ACER this is not and ACER PC< at all, (totally different) you could reload w8 , like you did before, now all that works its login password issue, can i presume the screens look ok W8login screens? local login fails, not bios, and not windows live logins fails that is right there are 3 tiers of logins. admin , create a new account and use that or do that and ask at MS how to copy date from dead account to new account, you never said once you had data. if no data on pc, then reload 8, easy no? the newer the OS the more hard it is to get data from that dead account( new permission rules, and hard to do) ask best i can tell, lacking your full model number teh CQ62-400 (newest) had only Windows 7 so how did w8 get there, from whome, and what media. and what install methods. from MS CD? or MS ISO, or from ebay hackers disks/ what? here are the ways, (not data recovery) http://www.pcdied.com/passwords.html

U have a nasty bug in there. Your best bet is using another computer download the latest malwarebytes program onto a usb stick. Using the hiren disk boot up to the fake desktop, navigate to the usb stick via explorer and run the program and get the latest updates for it at same time. Then run it and clean out the crud that is in the machine causing havoc.When you reboot go back into the program and permanently remove the deleted items that are in the quarantine area.

key board dead , correct. ? even the caps lock key will not toggle its led. my guess is you bought a clone keyboard from china, on fleabay and its dead. as many are, some are wired wrong. the ribbon cable on mine fits to a special connector that likes to break easy, is your broken this locking jack there? is it plugged in upside down? why did you buy a keyboard. was the other dead. when did the keyboard fail. list week last year, or never i bought it for cheap with dead kbd.... there is no HP drivers, HP retired this old PC, after 10 years. so what makes you sure your non HP drivers are any good.? XP? what I'd do , us boot to a Knoppix v7 live boot(dvd/usbstic)(linux) if the keyboard fails NOW, then its bad KBD. or the jack cable or connector there, (or inserted wrong) or damage. there. buffer chip is blown up with ESD events. (electrostatic discharges) is the keyboard dead in BIOS on ours we hit ESC or F10 and BIOS screens pop power on hammer ESC or F10 or what the screen tells you to hit. the go in to BIOS screens, now test the keyboard. using say the arrow keys to navigate the BIOS menus if the ESC and F10 key are dead that is a bad keyboard. what must work here is the electronics.

1. correct keyboard, some clones will never work.
2. cable not damaged
3. cable not upside down
4. connector there not damage the lock not broken,(easy)
5. the MOBO buffer chip not ESD damaged.
6. BINGO BIOS now works by key commands

Are you using an older AMD processor? older socket 939 AMD processors had the memory controllers built into the chip and tended to be a bit wonky with RAM. If you have 4 Ram slots check to see if they are different colors and try to insert the RAM into every other slot matching the colors.

Hello brother/sister, all you have to do is open your Compaq's Computer Cabinet (CPU Box) and then just check whether your RAM (Random Access Memory) is loose or not. You can easily spot the RAM as it looks like a long chip inserted inside a socket kind of thing. Then after you locate your RAM, then you just have to take it out and then clean it a little by brushing with rubber gently and then reinsert it back to where it belong. Then, restart your computer and then it will work. Cheers.

wow, no tests down with battery out. battery is the #1 failure in all laptop made. and fails many ways. the firewalls does not source power, forget that. If fact the HDD removed the power systems work perfectly. tests, run with no battery, IT MUST, if not the line power pack is TOASTED. runs with battery only, no, yes? (if charged) is this hard, no. try to know batteries can short. when they short they can overload any charger chip and can the PC. Batteries are week techology no battery ever lasts as long as the PC or any of its other parts. the fail some can fail in 6 months time. why wait, run with no battery, heck some do for years. after learning to hate batteries. I have 2 and is only for travel every year, i test them before for my trip for proper run times. only that works, in the world of batteries.
