the beeps are called BIOS BEEP codes. and is telling you what is wrong.
does run with no battery removed
do the BIOS screens work they MUST at all time. power on ,hotkeyed.
is the fan running
its old right,
like an old car that will not start do you buy a new car?
or buy a new battery? hummmmmmmm
ever heard of a tech>/? those folks that diagnosis things?
tried taking battery out, but failed to say it would not run only on the power pack. take it out and leave it out for now... be wise.
so the HP logo works every-time you never said that yes./no.??
thAT hp LOGO IS A BIOS LOGO FROM HP.
if yes the BIOS is ok. see? means the brain works the Ram is not dead and if you had pressed the BIOS hot key F1,F1, Esc, F10
what ever it is , it tells you what at boot in text. if you look there.
if it stalls with good bios that means.
bad HDD or bad OS.
SOME NEWER PC HAVE f10 OR F11 RESTORE KEY
IF YOU Press that, at power on ,it goes to restore mode.
(means reload windows)
oops HP retired this PC
https://support.hp.com/us-en/retired-products
that means in English clear, its
NOT SUPPORTED NOW.
no books no software no updates no NUTTN
No anything, !
now you know why mom dump it.?
LOL !!!!
its a dead fish.
or FORD, found on road dead. LT.
why not report the beep codes
clear and accurately,??????????????????????
run the LT with no battery and level it like that till cured.
then, replace the
COIN cell, no laptop this old has good 3vdc coin cell, impossible I bet.
if the cell dies, as all do in 5 -10 years.
the PC beeps with CMOS clock, NVRAM errors.
the battery size of a coin, runs the Real time clock and the
CMOS memory bank for the BIOS settings.
if the coin goes dead BIOS GOES NUTS ANT TIME/DATE goes NUTS.
if the beep codes say the HDD dont boot that usually means HDD is dead.
the trouble with beep codes are that there are many BIOS used
and many codes used. some are impossible to find.
beeps are now gone we flash LED codes now.
this is DT coin, LT is warped in plastic and 2 wires. see the COIN?

beep?
1 long , 1 short, ? is COIN dead.
http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/compaqbeep.htm
note the black hole OF BIOS code HELL here, its a bad place to be.
for sure.
one other test is go to BIOS page.
see that time/date, year, settings. if way off the COIN is dead.
learn to that a 1/2 dead coin can work now, then file and 1 hour later work, that is how batteries fail. they go MARGINAL sometimes.
