Take the hard drive out and put it into a powered external hard drive enclose that is compatible with your hard drive. Easiest solution, and your old computer SERIOUSLY needs upgrading. Then your Hard Drive contents will be visible on the computer you connect the USB lead to as a separate volume. XP is old and a Virus Magnet. You may be able to buy a Windows 7, possibly Win 8 upgrade CD, but usually you need the media disc for the OS already on the computer. Or you can buy a full version, which will allow you to upgrade anything. 3. One more thing you can try is tapping F8 as the computer is booting and see if you can see 'Start Computer with last known best Configuration. 4. Or you can take it to a local Independent computer shop and ask them to recover all your data from the hard drive to USB Memory Stick As I said, just suggestion until Larry gets here. I am a minor Expert compared to him.

bad hdd.

1. buy a new hdd.
2. buy upgrade to SSD
3. buy it in a PC store like Bestbuy
4. buy it at ebay , amazon or 1000s of online stores (googled)
5. the reload the OS.
6. or have a shop fix your PC and avoid all this , work.

no monitor told (most that old are dead) not told is monitor connected to VGA C14(carbon dated) 2006, relic the coin cell CMOS is dead and is first and only $1 USD or does the vga cable go to GPU card, DVI, VGA, HDMI what. 1. the card wifi not missing or just bad. antennas fell off?

the bad news is HP ended support for this PC. ZERO SUPPORT NOW. only googling and endless infected websites , like it.

all batteries (both) are bad. leave out the huge one, run on AC powerpack only replace coin cell battery RTC it is bad.

slow wifi slow internet, ISP, page for more speed ? email server is overloaded are not they all? emails with photos can be slow. are the with photos switch to text only emails faster and for sure more secure.

1. HDD not bad, or F11 is dead for ever. and ever.
2. HDD not upgraded or F11 image is gone for ever.
3. OS not upgraded and the Image is there for XP but is useles

Most these PCs have bad batteries and HDD is bad. most. the cure is obvious. new COIN new HDD. new OS. or test the hDD first, ask. the dead coin battery can not be ignored. or get the PC repaired in a real shop.

bad hdd now, heads crashed,? Laptops do that easy but yes fan too... there are only 2 motors there, HDD and fan one is not happy./ (use ear close) the PC when it overheats it slows down (Intel inside magic) or even shuts off. so most PCs do not damage actual but is no good too use slow or dead. sorry no fire. PCs are fire proof, smoke some sure is possible but super super rare smoke, disktop PSU sure do make smoke some times.
