Wheel assembly for powermate portable generator

My answer:

Believe it or not HFT (Harbor Freight Tools), which has local outlet stores in most big cities and is online as well (not sure where you are located), has a ton of various mountable tire/wheel assys in stock.

Some are swivel plate mounted - some are fixed plate type - and some wheels are just stand alone for axle-thru type mounted shafts of various diameters.

They even have a 13HP Genset wheel kit p/n 94192 for $24.99 online, and possibly the same price in-store if they indeed do stock it in-store. You just have to call a local HFT store and find out.

Prices can't be beat, and even though most everything there is made in China they do have some pretty good stuff there.

There is one other alternative if they don't have it in-store, and you really want to save a few bucks.

You yourself can make the same wheel kit set-up for under $15 if you are handy with metal working, and have a metal supply house near you.

If your Genset frame already has the axle hole plates welded onto the frame like I believe they all do today - then just buy the steel axle rod in whatever diameter rod is needed, and whatever length you need to clear the frame plus the added 2 wheels with 2 washers and 2 clearance bushings, and then just drill 2 cotter pin centered holes (1 on each end of the axle), and it's a done deal - all except for attaching any old metal type handle assy from maybe some old discarded gardening implement or possibly an older metal handled snow shovel for example. Just cut it down to size, bend according to fit the frame and bolt it on with 2 sturdy nut/bolt & lock washer assys. Done deal!!!

Just buy the 2 wheels anywhere that sells them cheaply, or else hunt some used ones down at a garage sale or thrift store maybe.

I made my own wheel kit setup on my own personal 5500W 10HP Generac Genset, and used the HFT pneumatic 10" tires when they were on sale for 1/2 price at $3 each. Axle rod - cotter pins (2) - washers (6) - axle spacer bushings (2) - custom hand made recycled handle & misc nut/bolt hardware all cost me under $10.

Labor cost - PRICELESS!

Please post me a reply as to finding this solution being the best resolve to your wheel kit problem there by following my recommendations above. Also please rate my troubleshooting fix as well.

Keep me posted and I'll follow up as well.

Best regards,

Frank

Powermate 6250 no spark

Hi Mark,

The engines used on the Powermates have a low oil shutdown system that can be troublesome. Try this:

1 - Make sure there is enough oil in the crankcase. The oli level needs to be all the way up to the bottom of the threads in the oil fill hole.

2 - Still no spark? Replace the spark plug with a new one (properly gapped), then spray something like brake cleaner into the carb. Pull the rope and see if you hear any detonations from the engine. If the engine tries to start but won't you need to look at the fuel system, then the ignition.

3 - If you proved there isn't any spark happening, look under the plastic cover where the kill switch is located. You'll find a small metal box with wires coming out of it. Find the wire that goes from the box to the kill switch and disconnect it at the switch. Mark things as needed so that you'll remember where to put them back. Give the rope a gentle pull and see if we have a working ignition, if it does have spark there is something wrong in the low oil shutdown mechanism.

4 - If you've convinced yourself that the low oil shutdown is misbehaving try changing this oil and flushing out the crankcase. Look for any evidence of debris that would have made the oil level float bind. As a final test reconnect the wire we took off the switch and disconnect the one that goes from the module to the oil sensor on the side of the engine, if you don't get a spark with the sonsor disconnected you probably have a bad module.

5 - If we didn't get ignition with the low oil shutdown disconnected from the kill switch, reconnect the wire we took off and then disconnect the (usually black) wire that leads down inside the engine. This is the kill wire for the ignition module. If you get the engine to start with this wore disconnected you may have a shorted kill switch, test it with an ohm meter.

6 - if there still isn't a spark with the kill wire disconnected you may have a bad ignition module. You have to take off the carb, then the blower housing to get to it. Check that the kill wire isn't shorted to the block anywhere, and that the module has the proper gap and orientation before replacing it, The modules say "cyl side" on the side that should face into the engine. A regular business card or a playing card ought to just fit between the magnet on the flywheel and the module, too loose would cause a loss of ignition. You get extra points if you use a feeler guage to set the gap to 0.010 inches.

7 - Ignition modules are available from a bunch of different places, your local Briggs supplier will want to know the model, type, and code numbers located on the side of the valve cover in order to be sure which parts you need,

I have a proforce 2500 watt generator and it cuts

Low oil doesn't usually make engines cut out. Clean the air filter, change the plug and wire. If this doesn't help then I think you're looking at a carb. problem. Probably just clogged jets & ports. It's very common on small engine carbs. It shouldn't take more than 2 quarts of oil. Probably not even one.

Coleman generator 5000 leaking oil after storing in garage for a year

If you just filled with fuel, likely crankcase is now full of fuel. Remove oil plug, but have something underneath in case a pint of oil/fuel comes out. Please comment here if find this to be true and I'll assist further.
