Some of those do it yourself alarms or starters kit want you to splice one of the wires on the the ALDL to get power. Those wires often get damaged. I'll look under there and check. My cigarette lighter fuse was blown and caused mine not to work. Also, some vehicles have fuses inside and under the hood.

You should check first id there is a broken wire, or loose wire. With an ohm meter, check the cables if they are ok. If you hav changed both relay and sensor,
it sounds to me like the fan does not get any power. Listen to the relay if it switch with a click, when power is activating it, via the + wire. Does the relay switch if you use a cable direct from battery? If it does the fan should start as well. Ifnot the wire from relay is broken or loose. I am no expert on the car, just common sense. Buy a multimeter if you dont have. Dont connect the way you ask, it mightgive you more problems instead.

Sensor is behind engine and between engine and firewall, the spring on electrical cable should identify it. One recommend you go to you tube for removal and installation.

It is hard to diagnose without being with the vehicle, but you might have corroded cables inside of the sheathing. Corrosion can cause high resistance and not allow the alternator to properly charge the battery. That explains the flickering lights and irradic readings from the gauges. The vehicle was running off of alternator power and not battery power. You need to check the connections for corrosion where the cables meet the cable ends and the connections at the battery. Make certain everything is clean and tight. If you are still having issues you might need to do a resistance test to the cables themselves.
