Jeep 10 disc changer; now only error message on dash.
I had this same problem on my 2000 Jeep GC Limited. Today I decided to open it up after looking all over the net and found no help, but spend $500.00 on a new unit. I removed the unit and used canned air inside all the areas I could. I hooked it
back up and was finally able to make the CD cleaner disc work. Once that was done I loaded it with 10 cd's and it is working again. I'm so happy! I saved my hubby 500 big ones.
I have a 1995 GC
Sounds like bad switches on the unit are keeping the volume down.

CD player continues to attempt to eject/read CD even when unit is off?
These unit's have that problem. It is the reader inside of the deck, you can try cleaning it, but this is usually why they are replaced. Also the mode switch that activates the radio part will not change because it is telling the unit it is in CD and keeps searching for a disc. GM has the same problem, because they are also using the same kind of decks on the inside. Did it ever play a disc for you? The track that holds the CD inside may have been damaged by an accident, and it has fallen off the track, this could be fixed, it is just finding someone honest enough to do it, without "stealing" your time and money. I am sure you have tried to hit the eject button. Insert a disc(one you don't care about)and see if it will play. If it ejects it then you will know it is the track. Because it can not find the mode for play. Goodluck
