Does the motor for the pump turn?

Turn the main power/ breaker off to outdoor unit for 1 minute. Resume power and retry. Stand near outdoor and allow a possible 3 minute delay. Problem likely to happen again but maybe this will give a clue. Maybe outdoor fan not running, machine is likely shutting down on a safety and by cycling the power you are resetting that safety.

The best way to reset any thermostat is to switch off the power supply completely to the unit then restart the unit again.

If the blower turns noisy check for any unbalanced like dirty blower, worn out blower bearings, worn out rubber mountings, loose bolts and nuts, or damaged v belts. These are the reasons making the blower noisy. Check also if the blower has any part damaged.

Please recheck the error code. Are you sure the code is P4 and not F4? Carrier does not list a P4 but it does list an F4 error code. F4 means outdoor mid-coil temperature sensor malfunction. Or how about E4? E4 means compressor discharge high temperature protection.

I believe you’re referring to the wall thermostat, when you say “Remote” if I am correct your thermostat is bad and needs to be replaced.

It means that the unit is getting 24v power. (Normal operation). Whenever a fault is detected, this LED will blink a code describing the fault detected. See the Service Label attached to the unit for more information. (The reference to the LED is near the top).

Hello, David - Apparently you do not have the owner's manual for your model Carrier furnace to check. You can add the model number of your Carrier furnace by choosing Comment and typing the information there so that I or another volunteer answerer for Fixya can advise you. If you have not opened the cover / door of the furnace to determine if a chart of error codes and what needs adjustment or repair, do that.
