Backfiring could be due to a few things, and is often lean mixture via the carb rather than rich mixture in the exhaust. Check the plug electrode. Black means it rich, chalky white means it's lean. The correct colour is a straw hue and no fouling. Backfiring is a well known issue. I would check the ignition timing first.

check fuse --need to narrow down problem spray with starter fluid if no start need to check ignition system starts then fuel delivery problem

6 months to a year after they are posted. not always but a lot lately !!

It's pretty basic and old school on all 550's and 380's unplug the back of the ignition ( it will now start without the key using the pull cord) remove the rubber boot from the ignition and unscrew the nut holding the ignition. Don't know why it needs replacement they pretty much never fail my 09 gtx 550 has over 12k and no problem except freezing occasionally.

I don't definitely know but taking a guess, assuming the fuel pump switches off after a while - fuel is a valuable part of the cooling of the fuel injection system and it could be the fuel pump keeps running to circulate fuel and carry away some of the heat that initially increases after switching off and could otherwise damage sensitive components.
