water in your salt store is normall. it is commonly called brine. this is purely a cleaning agent of your water softener to regenerate the media. you do not drink this water nor does your water pass through this. it is only pulled through into the unit when regenerating.ie. this piston is in a position which allows the water to flow through a v enturie pulling the salt. water will sit in the brine tank always to be ready for the next generation and to be at the correct brine dilution so it's important to maintain the salt level above the water level. cloudy water is nirmally air bubbles which should settle out within a couple of minutes . if it tastes salty I suspect your regeneration waste water is contaminating your supply feed. like seeping back into well or tank .

You need to have a salt cell installed on the system. The salt cell allows the salt water to pass over electrified plates to produce chlorine.. If you don't have this on your system do not add salt

We are going to need more information to assist you. Such as Model type: Gold series, Medallist, Silver, HE etc. and approximate age of unit. This information will either be on the back cover of the control panel or on the inside cover where you found the 1016182#. RJ

check that the small hose to the pickup in the salt tank is not blocked or loose allowing air into the unit rather than the salt water. IT runs on a venturi effect so any air leaks will not allow the water to be picked up. Download the operating manual for the unit as it has a detailed operation including fault finding and over hauling of the unit.

Have you tested for salt content in the pool. Most salt generators require between 3000 and 5000 ppm of salt for it to operate correctly. How many gallon pool? 810 pounds of salt should make it around 30,000 gallons?

Still to regenerate the cells the system needs salt. So please contact your dealer, to ask what you should do to solve this problem. Perhaps they know if the salt is also regenerated or is flushed away. If it i flushed away, you need to fill the system so now and then.

These valves are now obsolete and the tank fittings are not compatible with any other manufacturer. Sorry to say it,s time to replace it! RJ

My guess is the door switch is a two part switch, and one is controling the spin cycle, the other works cause it does everything else..

The fastest I ever saw a Kenmore softener thrown in the dump was seven weeks old. This was at the owner's insistence; just wouldn't remove iron. He bought an Autotrol with a turbulator from me. This was about 15 years ago and it still works just fine. He had his first service call 2 years ago. I've always thought that quality was more important than price, but if you wish to install yourself I can come so close to the "sale" price of a Kenmore.
