Toaster Ovens are purposely not meant to be repaired. Fire hazard.
Sorry for the bad news, Norm. Do as I do - take out your frustrations with it with a sledgehammer. Even then, you will find it hard to crack open.
Thrash it.
B & D toaster ovens are not meant to be repaired because the lawyers told them there is too much risk. They won't sell you or distributors spare parts.
Sorry, but that's the intersection of our disposal and litigious society.
only you know what a 5240 is and who made it so for an experiment try the following
go google and type in ---user manual for a ( manufacturer name ) model 5240 ( what ever it is )---and see if any site has a pdf version download
We've had many of these over the years...they seem to run along just fine, and then, one day, they quit. There is no fuse, but if it's the only thing plugged into that wall outlet, the one thing you might check is the circuit breaker on that line. To be sure, plug a lamp into the socket just to make sure you're getting electricity out of the wall.
Sorry to say, it may be time to purchase a new unit.
Most of the time this problem is caused by a build-up of toast crumbs in the latch mechanism. Unplug the toaster oven and follow the instruction manual directions for cleaning the toaster section. Try cycling the toaster lever up and down a few times, then clean out the crumb tray again. If that doesn't solve the problem, you'll have to look for an access to the latch mechanism to clean it out and perhaps gently straighten the latch hook if needed. Note: these are generic directions for all such toasters. I can't be more specific without knowing which model in the Waring Pro line you have.
