I have the Janome CHJ-3 Kwiknit Knitter and am having some problems with it. Purchased this machine some40 years ago and used it an awful lot and was always very happy with it. After storage and loaning it out, it now does not work. Needs a service I suppose which I would like to do myself. Does this machine have a sponge bar? Also I can copy the manual and send it to you - please let me know.

Lovely machine, sounds like it may need some age related maintenance. Start by oiling all the red dots. If you are not familiar with the oiling spots internally, I’d suggest checking out Facebook group vintage Bernina sewing machines, the group has files including manuals and service manuals. There is about 14 points to lubricate these.
Good quality sewing machine oil, not household or 3-in-1.

Use a stitch ripper, it has a point and a blade.

it sounds like something has happened to the cam gears thatdo the decorative stitches, which means the sewing machine needsto be checked..but before you have the machine checked,, make sure all the dial that are used for decorative stitches are at the right settingone missed setting can cause a lot of problems

Check the cable of foot switch and confirm it is ok. Check the connectors and if rusty, greasy or dusty, clean them and try again.

You don't have the bobbin carrier correctly inserted on your MYSTERY machine. Google make model manual and make model insert bobbin carrier

i have the manual for the KH 35; and i would be willing to make copies. my machine needs a needle bed. it will not run as-is.
it would be helpful to know which machine(s) is most worth 'saving'. the manual would help to run a thorough check, as i've just done.
l propose that we compare the condition/needs of our machines. hopefully, one of us would be willing/able to provide the other with replacement parts.
