Alarm Types
There are many types of swimming pool alarms. Let’s examine each one of them:
Gate or Door Alarms
They are composed of a magnetic sensor that is placed on the door to the pool. If the door is opened while the pool gate alarm is activated, it will give an alert to the parents.
If you have a gate, it’s essential to have one of this, but should not be considered as the only surveillance tool.
Perimeter Alarm
It is composed by an array of sensors that are placed around the pool. That way, if someone trespasses it, it will give an alarm. Although it sounds as a perfect system, it has some limitations since it needs to be adjusted to your child’s height. What about visitor’s children? Additionally, one of the sensors could be moved by an animal, wind, rain or snow.
Wrist Alarm
They have become one of the preferred methods to control children. It is a waterproof device that is placed around the wrist of your child. That way, if he falls inside the pool, it will send a signal to the station, which will give an alarm to the parents. The two disadvantages of this product are that it is expensive and requires the child to use it all day long.
Floating Sensors
These devices are placed in the pool and detect the motion of objects inside the water. Although practical, a floating pool alarm is a bit expensive. Their main disadvantage is that if the sensor is removed from the water, there is no way to know if something is happening at the poo
