Question moved from Cars and Trucks. Stand Mixers don't normally have belts and I don't believe this one does as I can't find spare belts. They are operated by nylon cogs that run in grease. The most likely reason is the she shear pin has sheared. This is a small pin like a nail that goes through a cog or shaft and shears if too much load is put on the mixer beater or dough hook. The sparks are generally seen where the carbon brushes meet the copper commutator on the motor spindle. This is actually fairly normal. You can lessen it by spraying with some light machine oil, but eventually you will need to replace the carbon brushes.

The sure fire tester for this problem is called a MEGGER and it measures the resistance between the insulations on everything. You could try that to see what it says. Some motors dont work well with GFI because they are capacitive start and that trips the GFI.

Turn the mixer upside down and spray WD40 into the beater holder holes. I think there is a ball bearing detent that hold the beaters and it is probably seized. It is humming because the Start/Run capacitor on the motor has failed. Call for service, tell them it is on but humming and they will bring one and fit it.

Try pushing up and turning to release and pull out.
