If this is not the case, you might have to disassemble and then reassemble your machine prior to attempting to insert the bowl again. The sparks are generally seen where the carbon brushes meet the copper commutator on the motor spindle. This is actually fairly normal. You can lessen it by spraying with some light machine oil, but eventually you will need to replace the carbon brushes.

Try having the planetary nut(s) less tight. From what I've read this model is very sensitive to the main shaft being tightened too much. I'm in the process of rebuilding mine and I screwed this up. Sounds like you did better if it's largely working. Let us know what you find.

The sure fire tester for this problem is called a MEGGER and it measures the resistance between the insulations on everything. You could try that to see what it says. Some motors dont work well with GFI because they are capacitive start and that trips the GFI.

It is humming because the Start/Run capacitor on the motor has failed. Call for service, tell them it is on but humming and they will bring one and fit it.

Hi, Please disconnect the power from the device for 5 minutes, reconnect and attempt to change the speed again. If that does not work, please eject the beaters and attempt the change the speed with them ejected before re-adding the beaters. Thank you.
