How do I clean the filter on a GE Sahara 25 dehumidifier?

First remove the bucket. Easily clean the filter w/warm soapy water either under lightly running water or carefully gently clean w/towel. Tap lightly to remove any excess water. Place filter up to air dry which shouldn't take long. After putting filter back in, press. & hold the clean filter reminder button for at least 3 seconds.

tip

Dehumidifier is running but no water is in bucket

If you have a dehumidifier that is not producing any water then you are wondering what you need to do to get this thing to work for you. In some cases you may be able to do something and in other situations there may be nothing that you can do.

If you do not hear the compressor running and the unit says that the humidity in the room is higher then the setting, then you have a problem with your dehumidifier.

A few things that can cause this are:

The circuit board relay has gone bad…replacement of this board will often cost more then a new unit. This also is a very common problem with many dehumidification units.

The compressor has failed…if you hear a buzz for a few seconds, every few minutes, then you have a bad compressor or at least bad start components on the compressor. Either way it again is a costly repair.

If the compressor is running and the coils are not getting cold then you have a refrigeration system leak. Recharging or fixing these units is very difficult and is another costly venture compared to the price of a new dehumidifier.

If the compressor is running but the fan is not, this also will cause low water production and continual freezing of the coil.

If the compressor and the fan are running but the coil is totally blocked then you will get no water production. Air needs to be continually moved over the cold coil to get the water out of the air.

If nothing is running, then you may also have a control board failure. Or the humidity sensor or humidistat has gone bad which tells the machine to run. If the sensor says that the humidity is low enough then it will never run.

Also if nothing is running check the float switch or the bucket switch. Many of these switches are very touchy and if you do not have the bucket in place just exactly right it will not trip the switch to allow the unit to run. These switches often are more fragile then they should be and break easily. The good thing is that when available they are easy to replace and relatively inexpensive.

There are some parts available for a few brands, but with the prices for most of the parts that you can replace running anywhere from 40.00 – 80.00 dollars, replacement parts with labor to install them, makes a repair more then the few hundred dollar cost of many of these dehumidifiers.

As you can see there are quite a few things that can cause your dehumidifier not to work. Systematically go through the list and eliminate things to get to the bottom of the issue causing your problem and then decide if it is worth spending the money to try to fix the old unit. Only you can make that decision.

Bucket fills up instead of water flowing out hose

There must be a blockage in the hose causing the water to back up and flow into the bucket. Try pushing a flexble peice of wire through the hose to unblock it.

Bucket fills instead of going down the drain

You may have an unintentional trap in the line (an up and down up and down. Hose has to lay flat on floor to drain.

Hose not draining, bucket only fills

The easiest way to unstop the hose is to blow air through the end enough to clear the clumped up dust at the other end using air compressor or air pump.

Whirlpool AD50USS Dehumidifier WILL NOT DRAIN THROUGH HOSE

I have a similar model. There are two drains, one for the hose and one directly into the bucket. The hose one is supposed to be lower, but I had to put a 3/8 inch block under the right side of the unit to get the water to favor the hose instead of the bucket. Another possibility is that the far end of the hose is higher than the near end. If you can't lower it, you can put the whole dehumidifier up on blocks. One other thing to check is that the hose has a rubber washer in it where it connects to the unit. Use a tissue to see if this connection is dry. If it leaks, it will just drip into the bucket. Good luck!

I have an whirlpool gold ad50gpusb from canadian

For the others who follow I have the same model, same problem on a 2 year old purchase made in 2014. This unit has a pump (and a hose) to drain the condensate. The pump light started blinking about a week ago, turning cycling power worked for a while, until pumping stopped altogether. After investigating: -the hoses are not blocked but there was some algal growth in the tray which I cleaned -the pump no longer pumps. -my favorite parts suppliers and other on-line sources have no record of the model/parts etc. -Called "whirlpool" consumer line in manual -Whirlpool has been purchased by Garrison and that company has no parts for this discontinued model but did provide a phone number for the pump 800-799-0991. Unfortunately the cost of this small solenoid pump is $74. I will drain the condensate via gravity to a floor drain as I don't see spending that much for something that broke so quickly and appeared poorly made..

How to make unit drain through hose, instead of filling bucket?

Assuming you have a hose connected to the bucket for drainage, it is necessary that the end of the hose be lower than the top level of the bucket or the bucket will fill before the hose drains. I see many people who have their units on the floor and run a hose up into a sink and wonder why the bucket fills. Gravity works.....if you cannot find a lower place to drain the water then you must raise the unit up on a table or stand of some sort to get the bucket higher than the drain.

My Danby dehumidifier leaks out

The drain tube or hole that drains into the bucket is probably clogged.

Turn the unit OFF and remove the bucket. Look in the cavity where the bucket was removed for a drain tube or drain hole. Using an 18" long plastic Zip Tie or something similar (No wire coat hangers) , that's appropriately sized to fit in the hole. Carefully feed the ZIP Tie into the hole or tube and thread it as far as you can. At some point the drain will curve, but you have to carefully get past this point. Once the Zip Tie has reached as far as it can, slowly pull it out while rotating it. This will loosen the clog. Once you have it half way out, be prepared for water to follow. This method should solve the problem.
