you sure you do not take the battery out and charge it in a charger?

put it on a toggle switch.

I had an outfit that the wires were too short and if there is enough length cut the wire and get a longer piece of wire. and solder it together. taping the open wire. I had one I took the connector that goes on the battery and fastened on a longer wire and soldered them together. Only do this if you understand what you are doing.

look very close at the bulb to see if the filament is still one piece or use a continuity meter for DC to see if the current is still flowing.
