I would pull handle on opener track and close door. The flashing red indicates the sensors are not aligned read the instructions that came with unit and they will tell you how to align them.. Now one of them may be bad, you can buy replacements at Home depot or Lowes. You can find more info at genie or google you model number and manual is available for free. You did not list the model number and that would have been better but, there may be a problem with the sending unit on the sensor, the receiver or the power to them from the opener motor unit. You can test for sender failure if they are UV by using your camera phone and look for a purple light coming from it, you can test for output using a voltmeter
