Many beaches have soft, sandy bottoms so you don't need water shoes. Every so often though, I snorkel where the bottom is rocky or has turtelgrass or coral bits or something. I would recommend you research the beach where you will be snorkeling to see what the bottom is like. When in doubt, bring water shoes along just in case.

You should look for a wetsuit that has glued plus blind stitched seams, or even those seams plus taped seams. It will cost more though.
