Just a guess but I think you have broken the rings inside. If you keep running it with broken rings you will trash the cylinder inside. I think you can buy a new pump for it if you are not mechanically minded.

You may be able to find a seal kit at an auto parts store, I have had good luck with them.

ensure gun it perpendicular to surface, many time the grain of the wood will defect nail. Many time i have had to tilt gun to get nails in without them curling.

First, you have to determine how it is attached usually they are screwed or bolted into place or simply held into place by clips or pressure. But there are many different models so please post the model of your machine so it can be identified or even a photo.
