Many paint sealants do not protect against salt water erosion. The salt water works to break down the protective layers to corrode the metal underneath.

i recommend going to the store and getting a proper sealant. adhesives are generally used just to fill a gap, while sealants are more used for actually fully sealing the gap off

Sounds like the cotton may have a glue-resistant finish on it, or else maybe the glue is old and it has expired. hope this helps

Not sure if this is still a relevant problem, but open a window nearby and turn a fan on. Im sure by now the fumes are gone anyway...

paint sealant is meant to protect your paint job and keep your car shiny, it won't serve this function in the house, unless you want very shiny walls..

Oil, peanut butter, alcohol, or vinegar should do the trick. Just make sure to be gentle so the strands don't break, and to clean it thoroughly afterwards.

Elmer's Glue is the best. They have both tubes and glue sticks and are non toxic. Most arts and crafts teachers use Elmer's.
