That is a serious error and you need to press the go button and see which lights are lit while you hold it and it tells the rest of the error. Could be main pcb, engine pcb or even a fuser error.

if the Drum LED is still lit after replacing the drum unit, the Drum counter may not be reset.
Reset the Drum counter as follows:

1. Open the front cover.
2. Locate the control panel button under the LED lights on the left side.
3. Press the control panel button until all lights are lit, then release it.
   The Drum counter is now reset.

Check the drum. Take the drum and toner out of printer. Remove the toner and check the drum. Probably scratched.

When the toner light is on this means the toner is empty and needs to be replaced before it can print again. Replace the toner and you will be able to print again.

Fuser error

1. power down the printer.
2. remove all color cartridges from their slots.
3. inside the color slot, you will see a green slide that will not move until you pick up the plastic cover.
4. rotate the plastic cover forward.
5. slide the green slide 3 or 4 times. (DO NOT TOUCH SMALL WIRES!)
6. return slide to original position.
7. snap the plastic cover back in place
8. return each color cartridge to it's slot.
9. replace color cartridge holder back to printer.
10. close all covers
11. turn printer back on.

If you still get the "move green slide" error, just repeat these steps

This took me about 10 minutes for the process, after understanding what the "green slide" meant.

sorry to say there is no free service manual on net.

This is not just a density sensor, this is a plastic cover over it that is getting stuck. There is a piece of soft rubber attached to the solenoid that is getting very sticky over time. Removing this rubber and stretching solenoid return spring corrects the issue. Search web for the service manual and follow chapter 8 to disassemble the printer correctly - takes less than 10 minutes to do it

I found this and it worked great.

1. Power Unit off

2. Open front cover

3. Press and hold GO and turn power on

4. When all 3 lights lit release and press GO twice

5. All lights turn solid

6. With all solid, press GO 5 times

7. Ready light GOes red

8. Close door and you're all set

hi. I had the same problem and to fix it you need to take printers right-side cover off. Underneath you'll find a Power Supply Board - hidden under metal cover. Take it out and disconnect two cables from it. Now, I had to replace an fuse 125V 4A and varistor E241AD 83P on the Power Supply Board in mine HL-2140. It works fine now.

Note: I could not find the exact replacements in electronic store so I used:

- fuse: 250V 4A

- varistor: FNR 10K241 (241 is the important number)

pull tray out load a couple sheets look underneath and see if paper is lifted up when closing paper drawer. If the paper is not raised to the up position you have broken the tray lift mechanism and it is not worth fixing. You can jam an eraser underneath the tray to manually raise the tray to do a dodgy fix.

Select your OS and then your language. Click on the Search button. The Full Driver and Software Package should be the first one listed after the search. This is the version for most users. Just click on the Download & Information link. Then click Download. Look further down the page for the stand-alone drivers. If you have another driver installed (for example, the Windows USB driver for a locally connected printer), uninstall the driver first. If it's the Brother driver, use the Brother uninstall tool. Otherwise remove the printer in the Devices and Printers Control Panel. (Click Start > Devices and Printers. Right click on the printer and choose Remove.) Then remove the USB cable if connected to the computer. Install the Brother software and then connect the USB cable when prompted to do so.Note: this download does not include any third-party software that was on the original CD. I hope this helps. For sure u can increase the darkness and there are settings to increase but u need to browse through the menu to locate the darkness increasing options. The mannual should definitely help.

If the marks on the page appear to repeat three or four times down the page regardless of what is printed, it could be the drum unit ( the unit the cartridge fits into) You can test this by taking the cartridge out of the drum and looking at the cylinder in the drum unit. If has light coloured bands, or looks very black, then it is at or past its life cycle ca20-25k pages. If it has clots of toner stuck to it but is otherwise ok, you could carefully clean it with alcohol and a cotton ball to remove the toner clots. Steady and patient is more rewarding than trying to grind the stuff off. If the drum looks reasonably clean, open the flap at the back of the printer and look closely at the fuser. If there are clots of toner stuck to the orange pressure roller or to the grey/tan fuser roller, then the fuser will need to be taken out and cleaned also with alcohol, cotton ball and much patience.

E1 is called a program error, asking the printer to do something it thinks it can't. Could just be a print that uses a lot of memory, if you don't have the extra memory installed. The manual just says to power off and on again, but I would also look at what you are trying to print and try another job.

Make sure you have run a cleaning cycle before spending money replacing anything. Sometimes the print heads will get a little dry and a color or multiple colors will stop printing. Have you replaced the black cartridge recently? Make sure you have pulled all the tape off correctly. There is an air hole that needs to be opened usually under the tape that will prevent the ink from flowing out of the cartridge. Let us know what your results are after checking the cartridge and running a cleaning.
