It looks like a horn it is actually a picture of the thin plastic cover that goes over the end before you put it inside the ear. Put the cover on and it will work.

Ambient temperature is not within the allowed operating range (10 - 40 °C or 50 - 104 °F).
Allow the thermometer to remain for 30 minutes in a room where the temperature is
between 10 and 40 °C or 50 and 104 °F.

You have to hold the blue/green button in whilst taking temperature. I forgot this and was just pressing it and getting this message. Operator error :)

is the drawer that its stored in, in the bathroom? the humidity or moisture could affect it. I have had mine for 8 yrs and works perfectly. Are you placing the probe covers on correctly and waiting for it to click or a pop before inserting into ur ear.?
