As long as you watch the impedance, the unit is spec'ed with 8 ohms. The power rating of a speaker is only the speaker. You could put a 500 watt speaker, r a 20 watt speaker on a 20 watt amp, it will not make any difference. If the speakers are 8 ohms the the impedance could be range from 32 ohms or 2 ohms, depending on the arrangement.

All I can offer is a story I read about john Lennon telling a studio tech he was going to do something similar - admittedly with 1960s technology. The story goes that the technician said "No Way" it would produce too much distortion. He did it anyway and I think this is what produced some of the "fuzz bass" type sounds in a couple of reords.

Turntables output at phono level NOT line level so make sure your settings are correct to engage the phono pre-amp in the desk for the lower signal level.

I'm having the same problem, however I can say that Phantom Power is out of the question. the c-1u is a variation of the c-1. The difference is that the u doesnt require phantom power

you should replace/repair it. send in for repair the light do not indicate signal at speaker connection.

If you are pulling the transistor that drives the final and the problem goes away, is the driver bad? Is the power supply a multi channel isolated unit? Could the channel for that side be bad?

Faichild/Toshiba make the output transistors for the ep2500, part numbers 2SA1943 and the 2SC5200. Beware though there are a lot of dodgy fakes around on ebay. Profusion are excellent. Heres the links for them.

There are so many components that can fail that troubleshooting this can be an expensive problem.

HINT: Put a 150 Watt light bulb in series with the power going into to limit current for/during troubleshooting.

Go through and compare the voltages on the teo channels. If power amp transistors have failed, likely the driver transistors also are gone.

Testing components in-circuit is very dificult. Resistors are pretty reliable and usually show damage by discoloration.

Furhter use before repairing MAY cause further damage.

Hold down Recall Button and Press the channel that U want to unlink.
