It is normal to see this center will go of after a few minutes when it is in tape player mode or CD player but no playing. Only in mode "Aux" and "radio" it is permanently "on" until "off" by hand or remote. . If problem persists in all modes then obviously something is not right with control system. You may try "my" idea - switch off, remove mains cable plug and press remote key for example "radio" like normal control. After plug mains back and check if changed. In my center I have other than yours control malfunctions and I do not blame unit but electronic interference or mains voltage defects.

what inputs does the B+O have ? there are various usb adapters with line out outputs, not forgetting the headphone sockets, my laptop (G4 powerbook) has a s-video and that has audio in it.

I am not familiar with the model but a high quality turntable and tonearm needs special care. The turntable should be adjusted to be as level as possible - the classic method uses a circular "spirit" level that has a blob of mercury instead of a bubble. The tone arm can be moved manually but great care must be exercised especially if it is fluid damped, though it is better not to if the mechanism is functioning. It is important the stylus tip is in good condition and the playing weight is adjusted to the required value using a stylus balance. The correct playing weight is specified by the cartridge manufacturer and the adjustment method will be described in the instruction manual.
