1, Lay pencil on the table top, place body of plane with the front (toe) resting on the pencil, so the light passes beneath the front and middle of the plnes body. 2, lay blade, bevel side up, in to body of plane, ideally sharp end is sticking out of the mouth ever so slightly., 1/2-1mm. 3, Release the knob or lever cam on the lever cap and place on top of blade. 4, tighten knob/turn leaver till it tightens on the blade. and your ready. 5, If the blade isn't protruding the mouth correctly then: 6, Loosen a knob/lever a little to allow the blade to just move, adjust the blade forwards/sidways, lock it in place by re tighten the knob/lever. Plane a thin piece of wood, re adjust as necessary till wafer thin shavings collect in the mouth ontop of the bevel.

Take a look around the house or any place where you're using doors that don't swing clearly open and closed. Check to see that the door doesn't have a problem with its hinges but is actually a millimeter (or a few) too large on the top or bottom, since this is a perfect use for held power planers. Look for ragged or rough edges on wooden planks built into things like handmade bookcases. Also find imbalances on the bottom of wooden chairs and tables that cause an annoying rocking that is easily corrected by the held power planer. Use the planer to make rabbets (sometimes called rebates), or smooth and even grooves in a piece of wood that can accommodate the edge of a piece of glass, sealant or putty. Thin out pieces of wood used for do-it-yourself jobs if the wood expands from humidity and moisture. Let the wood settle in the place that it will permanently sit and then user the planer to plane the wood to the correct size. Do the work in the place that the wood will occupy if it's feasible. Take a look at wooden window frames that cause the window to stick or open and close roughly. Plane the window frame a millimeter at a time to get the window to run correctly.

If that doesn't work for you, do a google search on "tuning a hand plane" and you'll find a wealth of information that should help you sort it out. There are also excellent books and articles available on the subject, with many views on how to properly set up your plane. I suggest you start with Taunton Press or Fine Woodworking magazine, and go from there. Your local library may have access to older article which will help you to set up and properly use this excellent tool.

these planes were made by stanley from 1876 till 1947, it is about 7 1/2" long and cutter is 1 5/8" wide, it is virtualy exactly same as stanley 110, but it has blade raiser installed.

most popular are models without star and these are valued at anything between $20 to $80, depending on the condition, if with original box, labels, they are about double the price.

6 star model, second most popular, is not exactly rare but value can be between about $50 to $250

5 star model, it is rare, if complete, its value is between $300 up to $800, it differs in that that it have raised front end knob receiver

original price was $1. and for another $1 you will receive dozen blades...
