Bachmann power pack shows a short.
Look in the tunnel and see if there are any thin bits of metal that could be shorting it out. If it is a sectional track layout, unclip the section just before the tunnel and just after. Try this to all your sections. If there is a short, your train should work until you connect the bad piece to it then all will stop. Basically a process of elimination. Also check connections to the track to see if there is a single loose wire that may be causing the problem. Another thing is getting the power pack and connect it to a single piece of track which is not connected to the layout and try the train. It could be the train shoring it out, try the train and if it works, it's got to be the track..

I bought bachmann spectrum 2-10-2
sounds like it's too lightweight! try running with a big blob of plasticine on top, to see of it runs right. if it then works ok you need to fill the internal spaces with lead (ask your local tyre shop for the weights they take off wheels when changing tyres)
I have a Bachmann electric train and the engine
An electric train is simply a DC motor and a gearbox. Take the body off and check the motor for continuity. If it checks okay, carefully, tourn the motor. You might have a broken gear in the gearbox. A good hobby shop should be able to find parts or, you can get them online.

When trying to give a decoder a new address i keeps coming up error code 12how do i get around this
this might be due to electrical "noise" on track or near by , me I use a one piece dedicated track with its own power supply to power my dcc stuff when programming them , if your not in that position financially then try using a short one piece of your own track that doesn't have ends or go anyplace , also try to avoid programming near floursent lights these things throw out tons of electric noise !! and it drives my command system nuts sometimes
