Hi, I have the Dream Machine so they are very similar when you turn on touch the icon at the top of the screen that looks like a document that puts you in the settings. tab thru until you come to the page with Stitch count and whether or not it has the update.

check if thread has balled up in that area if so then dig it out with a paper clip, dental pick or a razor blade. there is usually an adjustment but i suspect there is a thread jam

My moms does the same. One way we got around it was to hold the presser foot all the way up and click the ok button on the screen. The other thing we did would be to hold the presser foot up all the way while turning the machine on while the embroidery unit was already attached. When I say raise the presser foot all the way up, I am talking about raising it up as if you were placing something really large under the foot, not just in the resting up position. Hope this helps - it is very frustrating! My sister has the same exact machine purchased at the same time as my moms, but she doesn't have this problem.

If it is a mechanical machine (not computerized), it could be seizing due to old oil that has dried. Mechanical machines, especially sergers, need frequent and thorough oiling (interior moving parts) using a good quality sewing machine oil. If it binds and locks up, you can force it in the direction of travel using the handwheel. Remove the needle and the bobbin and run it full speed for 15 seconds. If it continues to do it, you need to take in for service and more importantly, timing.
