I am not an expert so I can't help much. When switching on the speaker will generally click or thump as the capacitors charge with power. That the click is no more could indicate anything from a power supply fault to tired capacitors. This could equally apply to the distorted sound though equally the trouble could be the bias adjustment of the audio output stages. The trouble with dc coupled amplifiers is the bias is set by components up to several stages earlier than the output stage(s). Age could have altered the semiconductor characteristics making the existing bias setting useless but heat soak might be restoring those characteristics - just a guess. I suggest you obtain a service manual and a can of freeze spray...

Everything depends on the car stereo and amp setup that you have. That info is very important. Um without that it's just a shot in the dark. Possible stereo settings for amp were changed, amp failure, amp wiring fault or the good old it just doesn't feel like working.

I'm assuming it's the Spider IV 30 Watt amp from Line 6. Okay so first how old is it? (the older the more dust bunny probability and possible damage/worn out) How abused is it? (increases the likelihood of damage) Is it dirty? (dust bunnies on vented equipment overheats equipment and excessive build up can cause shorts in circuitry, water damage, aka the obvious. If applicable this is prob most likely sealed unit. Does it need to be opened up and possible blown out with duster? Also change to a known good outlet. (lol these things are almost never the culprit I mean everyone checks those things and they are engineered in ways that make it highly unlikely they will fail) . Your unit has a year warranty I am assuming it's up. Sorry, picking a sub-woofer and cabinet is a very complicated and a subjective matter. To simplify things, I will break things down into two categories, each with trade offs,which can be discussed later if necessary. Let's say that there are two expectations from a sub-woofer. Some folks want sound quality (SQ) and others want Maximum Thump (MT), not SQ. And then there is the car you are putting it onto. With so many choices in sub-woofers, cabinet configurations & cars, a question like yours is very difficult to answer.SQ, will sound best to someone that likes and wants sound quality, MT, you will feel more that hear, which will not appeal the SQ lovers. So, with that said, what are you after? Some SQ lovers are into the music they are listening to, Most MT lovers are into shaking their car, everyone inside it and all those in the not too distant vicinity. So, you got to pick a side more or less. Good luck!

Yes...just turn down amp level then crank radio as loud as you will listen to it. Then slowly raise gain back on amp until sub is laboring a bit then turn it back down a bit.

Short somewhere...unplug speaker wires then power up to see if red light goes away.

sounds like you have bad power or theres something shorted inside.

How good is your electrical in vehicle? It sounds like your not getting enough power to it. Does it play fine at lower volume
