In my opinion, an oven only can smoke for the next reasons: 1 burning insulation. in this case the oven will not work long, so I think it is not the problem 2 there are foodrests in the oven but as you clean the oven regulair, this also will not be the source of the problem. 3 the methode of cleaning is the wrong one.
