old post but the F20 has CCFL lamps and all are dead now if used 10hr/day for 5 year they die, all do that. if the flashlight test passes (see data on screen with Menu button pressed over and over the CCFL tubes died. buy a LCD monitor 2010 or newer and with LED end the pain of CCFL now. like most have now./ it is at least 12 years old today, amazon reviews the silly book on it has no date (very rare that) 2006 is OLD!

and it will if win xp is the only operating system installed the defaults come after the os is up and running and all of the default settings can be changed in the control panel defaults

Try removing the battery and then starting the computer with the power cord. Sometimes the battery is bad and prevents the computer from working properly.

i came across this issue a couple weeks ago and was able to overcome it by booting to a Hirens 15.2 boot disk and writing a New Boot Sector. However if this is not an option you can try a couple other ways to remedy this. : are you using windows? :what Version of what operating system?

If you are able to hear the fan running inside your laptop , then it should be possibily the mother board that needs to be checked.

1. Verify the monitor's power cord is plugged firmly into the wall outlet and the back of the monitor. 2. Verify the monitor cable is firmly connected to the computer and the monitor. 3. Verify that you have turned the monitor power switch on. 4. If the power light on the monitor is not on, test the wall outlet (plug in a light or something you know works). 5. If the power light on the monitor is not on, try a different power cord. 6. If the power light is on and yellow or flashing, but nothing displays, or the display is incorrect, borrow a monitor from a friend. If that works, your monitor probably needs replaced. 7. Also, you could try your display on a friend's computer. If it doesn't work, your monitor probably needs replaced. If it works properly on your friends computer, the problem may be with your computers video output port, motherboard video chip (or video card, if you have one), or drivers.

Seems like you have a dead battery AND now a broken power cord. Just in case, remove battery and power cord and hold the power button down for minute.
