Switch powers off
- Faulty power supply
- Heat issue
See if there are any logs on the switch that you can check for errors. If you can't I suggest you call 3Com for troubleshooting.
How to check if the switch is manage or unmanaged
Managed switches you can enter the default ip into a web browser, login and "manage" settings" this default IP will be vendor specific. Unmanaged you just plug in devices and that's about it. Managed switches you will pay a lot more for. Some lower end ones maybe several hundred dollars and up. If you are buying switches at Best Buy they are almost all unmanaged.
My problem is i have
- Using a Null-Modem Cable , hook up the Console port of the switch to an available COM port on a computer (cable must be able
to provide serial port communication between 2 computers).
- Set up a Hyperterminal session to that COM port (e.g.: com1), with
the port settings at 9600/8/N/1/N (. When the screen comes
up blank with a blinking cursor, hit [enter] once or twice to bring up a
login prompt.
- Alternative to 1 and 2 above, if there is a known assigned TCP/IP
address for the switch, one can telnet to that address, hit
[enter] once or twice to get the login prompt.
- Default logins to try are admin/(no password) or security/security. One of those 2 should bring up the management menu.
- To reset factory defaults, type SYSTEM[enter] then type
INITIALIZE[enter]. This will reset everything that has been set up on
the switch, with the exception of the TCP/IP address, if there is one.
All other previous configurations will need to be
re-entered.
- You can type in username "3comcso" and password "RIP000". It will ask you to reinitialize the switch.
This will reset all settings including passwords.
Hello sir..im have the switch
Connect some text-based terminal emulator such as Hyperterm, telnet,VT100, etc to the serial port. Configure the emilator to19200 Baud 8 plus none.
Switch the 4924 on and login using the user "recover" (without quotes) and password "recover" (also without quotes.
The switch will go into recovery mode. It will display a count-down starting at 30 seconds. If you power thye switch off before the count is up, the default password for the main administration account "admin" will be cleared.
After a few seconds, power the switch on and set a new admin password.
After loigging in again, take the option "GettingStarted". Configure the ip settings (best to use a static address) and eventually you will get to the "Initialize" option. Enter yes, and after reboot it will be at factory except for its ip address.
How to rest t
Connect the switch with a null-modem cable
In windows, hyperterminal , To enter into Password Recovery Mode:
login: recover
password: recover
Turn the power off (hard reset) within 30seconds
Re-enter the password twice.
Wants to reset 3824 3com switch via console
You forget the password for the "admin" user account and can no longer perform important management operations.
Use the password recovery method outlined below to define a new password for the "admin" user account:
- Access the Command Line Interface from the console port and enter the user name "recover" and password "recover" to place the Switch in password recovery mode. The Switch remains in password recovery mode for a maximum of 30 seconds, before it returns to the CLI login prompt.
You must use the console port to recover the passsword. If you attempt the recovery method using the network, the password will be rejected.
- Perform a hard reset on the Switch whilst it is in password recovery mode by switching it off, waiting a few seconds, and switching it on again.
You cannot use a soft reset operation to reset the password of the "admin" user account. This will end the password recovery procedure and return you to the CLI login prompt.
- When the Switch has rebooted following the hard reset enter a new password for the "admin" user account.
3Com 3c17304 port 25 up not connecting
Well I think the port is bad, I had one that did something similar to your problem. I got on the 3Com website and submitted and RMA request and they upgraded my with the newest model. But if yours is still in stock they will replace with the same type. That is what I would do. Hope this helps ya.
Inherited 2 switches 3com 4228g (3c17403) password problem
I haven't worked with these switches but generally settings such as ip address and factory defaults can be set through the Console Interface (CLI). You will need a null-modem cable to access this and a terminal client (Windows Hyperterminal works).
Hope that helps
