A user's phone calls keep dropping out during

I would recommend starting with what is simple. Have you tried replacing the Ethernet patch cord that the phone is connected to? How about the curly cord between the phone and handset? Does the phone do the same thing if you connect it to a different port? Does a different phone do the same then when connected where this phone is connected?

How do i reset voicemail password on 3com 3120 phone?

On 5.0 and older software, Log into the NBX Phone system as administrator and click on "tab to it". Then click on the "security" tab under System Configuration. Click on "Reset User Password". Highlight the user you want to reset and then click "reset. The system will reset the password to the same as the extension number. On 6.0 and later software, Log into the Phone system and go to "System Maintenance, Password Administration". Select "User Password" in the drop down menu and click "Go". Select the box on the left for the extension you want to reset and click on the "Reset Password" button at the top of the list. The system will reset the password to the same as the extension Hope that helps!

PEOPLE CANNOT DIAL AN EXTENSION

The extension range needs to be allowed in the Auto Attendant. For example, if most all of your extensions are in the 100 series range and you are trying to get to a 200 series extension then you have to have the option in the Auto Attendant (under Menu tree) for button 2 that says "Reserved in Dial plan". If the extension is in the correct range then you should check to be sure that the extension is Dial Plan, Tables, Internal 3 Digit extensions (click devices using for older software). Make sure that extension is in the list (on the left for older software).

Default gateway

Depending on the mode the phone is in, it may be only a layer 2 device - meaning it just broadcasts at layer 2 to find the NBX and once discovered, uses layer 2 for all communication.

Voicemail password admin reset

The phone password has to be reset on the phone system (by the Administrator), not the phone. If you purchased phones and added them to the system, then those extensions wouldn't have passwords on them if they were newly added to it. If you purchased the entire system and phones then you can reset the phone passwords under "system maintenance", "password administration".

When there is an operator message like "this number is not in service", NBX phone turns to extension and Audio codes turn to busy tone.

This is a phone company recording and is normal for a call that can't complete. It has nothing to do with the phone system.

Are you saying that the phone boots up and has the extension on the display but when called by another phone it is busy?

Does it do call masking

Yes, press the feature button and then enter 889. This will restrict the NBX system from sending out your Caller ID information for all calls. You will have to disable this by doing the same thing if you want to get your outbound caller ID back. Feature 890 will restrict the NBX system from sending out your Caller ID information for this call only.

Tips on how to fix rj45 connector problem

Replacing the Patch cord is the easiest thing to do. If it is crimped on to the cable coming out of the wall, you should put a jack on it. To replace the clear mod plug on the end, you need another Rj45 mod plug and a crimp tool. These can be purchased at Home Depot, Graybar, Fry's electronics, Radio Shack etc. The crimp tool can be a little expensive but if you are going to need to do any more in the future, you'll have what you need. If you decide to put a Cat5e or Cat6 jack on it, they too can be purchased at the places mentioned above. You would need a punch tool instead of a crimp tool. Some jacks are tool-less but that is not the norm.

Web page + 3102

You can't web to a 3102 phone, only the phone system. If you don't know what the IP address is on the phone system, you will have to get a serial cable (null modem cable) DB9 male to DB9 female and connect to the console 1 of the phone system. You will need a terminal emulator program and connect at 9600, 8, none and 1 for the settings. Type nbxIpConfig (case sensitive) and hit enter. The IP address will then be shown. If this is not what you were asking, please explain.

Lost web interface otherwise system is working

This does happen occasionally but is not a typical thing. This means that you have either lost network access to the system or a service on the system has stopped. The system will have to be rebooted to get things going normally again. The preferred method (since you can do it through netset) is to connect to the console port with a DB9 straight through serial cable and open hyperterm or putty and connect to it at 9800, 8, 1 none settings. Hit ctrl r and the system will reboot. if you don't have a serial cable then you are forced to pull the power or switch it off and then back on. CAUTION: you risk a database corruption every time the system loses power without closing the database properly (netset or ctrl r through the console) so do this as a last resort. Also, the system will do a disk scan (except V3001) and will take 15 to 45 minutes to complete before the system will start to function again. DO NOT UNPLUG IT AGAIN WHILE IT IS DOING A DISK SCAN! You can tell if it is doing the scan by looking at the S1 and S2 lights on the Call Processor. During a disk scan, they will be alternating back and forth (like police lights). Wait for it to complete and try netset again. I recommend doing a fresh reboot through netset after it comes back up just to be sure it's a fresh clean boot.

2102 setup

The phones aren't on the system. You have to make sure to turn on "Auto Discover Telephones" under the system settings, system configuration tab within "tab to it" (on 5.0 and older software) and System wide settings, auto discovery with newer software. If the phones are plugged into the same network as the phone system, the phones will automatically come up with extensions.

How to reset a 3com phone

You'd have to reboot the phone, and press the white dot 'Program' button within 30 seconds of reboot, then use the arrows to scroll down through the menus to Advanced settings, and find Eeprom reset to default, and choose that. *Note- This will reset all values of the phone. If it's Ethernet Only, it's fine. If the phone is using a Static IP, it will also clear the IP addressing on the phone* If you are talking about resetting the phone from a user profile perspective it is different. You can reset the voicemail password under the system maintinence, password administration and select user password in the drop down box. After the password has been reset (to the extension number) they can log in and change the recordings and password. You will also need to then go to the users tab and change the name.

What's the number for customer service for 3com

3Com was purchased by HP and has discontinued the NBX product line and support. They have also as of September 31, 2013 stopped selling licenses. Some resellers are still able to get them but I'm sure that will stop soon enough. The NBX tech support number I had was for tech support is now a prize hotline number.

3Com 3102 phone dial tone but won't dial out

As long as someone hasn't been poking around in the phone system, this is a phone company issue. I have seen this many times and it has always been a carrier issue. Typically with PRI's or integrated access analog lines.
