Are new batteries available?I opened unit and battery wires pulled out of connector. There are many websites with hard to find batteries. Most are a lot cheaper than Radio Shack.

Radio Shack and they might test your cord. There is a fuse in the cord, that can blow out, and it is easy to bend the cord too much and break a wire, but I bet your cord is good and the cradle is bad.
