I have two Dell 1908 FP monitors. They both plug into my dell docking station to which I attach my Dell Latitude laptop. I have moved to a foreign country (a caribbean island called Dominica) for a about a year. Before I left I tested this setup for a week and did not have any problems. Now that I am here, of course, neither monitor functions correctly. They both turn on and display a picture for about 1-2 seconds, and then they go black. While they are on, they emit a static like noise from the rear. It is not like a hum, but more like static. There is no electrical smell. At first I thought maybe the auto switching power supply was having trouble with the 220V 50Hz current. So I purchased a 1,000 watt 220V -> 110V transformer. (That wasn't cheap.) Same problem with the monitors. I have tried plugging them in individually to my laptop (bypassing the docking station), as well as trying them on a friend's laptop. I continue to get the same issue. I have tried changing the resolution, refresh rate, and color settings. Same issue. Please help! I am not sure what else to do. I can't imagine they would both go bad at the same time, right??? The cost of shipping new ones here would be triple what I paid for them!

This is usually down to the cable and fuse rather than the device. You will need to buy the right power cables/power adaptor to have the device work in that country

SOURCE: Screen color is purple

if you have access to another monitor use if to verify the monitor is the problem and not the video card of the computer.
does the monitor allow you to adjust color and tint(hue) because the tint or hue control changes the overall color from green to purple. or the color control circuit has failed leaving you stuc with a purple screen.

SOURCE: Monitor will not show any indication of power.

4 years is a good life for a monitor, so i agree you can stick to Dell since its already proven itself... :) - As you mentioned, this monitor is not currently being sold from Dell, I would suggest an upgrade to a 19" - http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&sku=320-5629 or a 23" one http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displays/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-7339 ... if i were you, i would choose a 23", but for a higher pricing :)

SOURCE: Monitor gone black but shows self test not floating

Sounds as though the control unit has died. There are 3 parts to most monitors. The video processor board, power supply board and the HV/backlight board. You can replace the video processor board.
Make sure you leave the unit unplugged first and set for an hour. Usually no other fix then replace the board.

How can i update dell dock?

A docking station is an extension or addition of ports for a laptop computer. Once the portable computer is docked, you can access the docking station's ports, such as PS/2 or USB 2.0 ports, through your computer. Some docking stations have monitors that you can connect your computer to, placing your video on an external screen so you can turn off your computer's monitor and conserve some of your computer's energy. All Dell docking stations will have the same general troubleshooting steps.

Plug your laptop's power adapter into the docking station and dock your laptop onto/into the docking station. If there is no power going to your laptop from the docking station but it works when the power adapter is plugged into the wall, the docking station is bad and needs to be replaced. Plug your power adapter into the docking station and dock your laptop onto/into the docking station. If power goes on but your computer doesn't recognizes accessories such as a USB mouse--plugged into the docking station, try a different port on the station. If it works in a different port, the previous USB port is burned out. Plug your power adapter into the docking station and dock your laptop onto/into the docking station. If power is going through the docking station but no accessories are being recognized, you might have a corrupted docking profile. Undock the computer and dock it again once it has fully started up to reset the docking profile. Plug your power adapter into the docking station and dock your laptop onto/into the docking station. If you have an external monitor and it is not working, completely close the lid on the laptop so the image will move to the external monitor. Plug your power adapter into the docking station and dock your laptop onto/into the docking station. If power is going through the docking station but no accessories are being recognized and resetting the docking profile fails, update all drivers through Dell's support website and then re-dock the computer. Some of the software that runs the hardware may have become corrupted. Hope this helps

Dell latitude D410 wont boot up when hooked to docking station can not use keyboard or mouse

Sounds like a compatibility issue between your Dell and the Docking station. I would say make sure the software for your docking station is installed properly, and update the software before connecting again.

There is something wrong on your DOCKING STATION ( as what you mean the "base station". Hope I'm right with the things you mention. Docking station not working okay though. Try to call DELL technical support for some solutions for this issue. If it can be resolve over the phone then fine but if not then they either replace the docking station or have it repaired. Thank you.

No internet when docked.. needs network controller

Assume the docking station is powered. I have seen funny behaviour with my docking station. Sure way for it all to work is, everything off, fit to docking station, turn on with power button on docking station. Ensure network cable plugged before this.
