Sony DSC P72 battery short life/camera deffective?
I have had the above camera for about a year. Generally, I am happy with it. I have been using the NiMH Cybershot batteries. The original batteries which came with the purchase lasted about 7 months - I had to recharge them occasionally, but at the end, they appear to need to be recharged very frequently. I have bough a different NiMH brand and they were dead within days after recharging so I bought the NiMH Cybershot ones, but the problem remains. Is it possible that there is something wrong with the camera itself? Last time, when I recharged, the batteries lasted for about 4 days and I took about 7 pictures with flash on the second day. I am sure they should last longer, the first set batteries with the new camera lasted without rechargind about 3 weeks.

You have inserted battery in your camera after splashing water onto it. Switching ON the device caused short in the circuit. It needs to be send for service (repair), there is no other way to fix the problem.

Confirm if you're using a fully charged Battery with the Camera. Check if you're able to playback the images normally. Then, try to reset the Camera by either pressing the Reset button when the Camera is in ON condition or by removing the Battery and pressing the Power button for 1 minute and reinsert the Battery. Unfortunately, if the issue persists your Camera requires service.
It could be that the battery isn't holding a charge anymore if you are using rechargeable batteries in you camera. Most of them have a short life to them. If you can get a hold of another one, see if that solves that problem.
My P-72 battery indicator seems to work the same way. After shooting a number of pictures, it drops to 1/2. But, if the camera is off for a while, it shows full again. that is, until after many pictures. Then when it starts, it reads below full. I am getting outstanding battery charge life--at least equal to that claimed in the manual. It may be that Nimh batteries cause the indicator to work that way. As long as I am gettng such a large number of pictures off a charge, I am happy.
I can't help you with the other problem. Sounds like you should talk to the company that makes the screen protector.

Yes, that is normal for the P72 to black out. I only know from experience of playing with it, not from a technical reason for it, but if I had to make an educated guess I would say it's because you're not getting as much power out of AA's as you do from a lithium-ion (like the one you have in your s85), therefore it takes longer, and most likely all of the power it can put out to get that flash charged; it does take a lot of power, as you probably know after about 40-50 shots you're through a set of AA's. As for the short picture review delay after shooting, also normal from what I've seen; it seems like the newer Sony cameras, especially the lower priced models have a very short review period. Of course, as was mentioned you can always just press the the left button out of the four buttons centered around the enter button in order to do a quick review. I personally don't own the P72, so if one of you P72 owners out there experiences something different, we can find out, but I think it's safe to assume your camera is acting quite normally.
