I have a Denon AVR-3300, LG HD TV, Comcast cable, Sony HD DVD player, and Bose surround sound system. The surround sound is working through the DVD player and HD TV, but will the surround sound work with the TV directly? If so, how? Direct from Denon to Comcast / TV?

Personally I would use an RCA cable and hook up the AVR.
((RCA out of TV to AVR audio in))
((cable box HDMI cable output to TV HDMI Input1))
(As far as the AppleTv I would use a separate HDMI Input2)
If your AVR has a dvd or blue ray player Hook up a
HDMI cable out to another Input HDMI3 of the TV
using separate inputs on the tv will allow your surround system to be
used on all modes(CABLE,DVD/BLUERAY,APPLETV)
I understand, it's something I've misunderstood on my denon avr-790 as well when connected to a samsung 8000 series led tv. The answer isn't in the receiver's settings (you can be on whatever source you want on the receiver end when toggling the menu). You need to toggle through the tv's sources to find the menu (usually found on hdmi 1). I've spent towards an hour recently troubleshooting only to find that it was the tv's source that wasn't set properly and I was trying to change the receiver's settings instead of the tv's source. Hope that helps!
Stop guessing. Have you looked at all the manuals?
The other devices you're inquiring about are not named in your post. Name the makes and models first, then we'll look for the manuals. Then (maybe) find a solution. You could run them by the manufacturers' support sites or these guys...

if you want to listen your TV on your Stereo system thru your receiver, AVR-3300 ** you need to connect "Audio Output " RCA jacks or "Optic cable output" of your TV
** to "AUX input "
or "TV" OR "Any input" of your receiver ( except Phone ) or "Optic Cable input" ** than just switch to
respective mode on AVR-3300 RECEIVER corresponding your RCA or Optic connection... There you go..Your TV sound is on the AVR-3300 Receiver..By this means whatever you watch on the TV (tuner, satellite , Xbox ) ,it's sound will come thru your stereo..
Hope this helps!

Hi, If dvd combo player is only video source connected with Denon AVR 790 then unplug yellow video wire from Denon and plug it directly in TV input, now video signal will go directly to tv and sound will come from Denon AVR 790 speakers during dvd playback. This is simple bypass that wont effect surround sound of dvd playback. Let me know if you have additional question. Thanks.
After days of frustration the real problem was with the cable box. It needed a firmware update. Following forum advice I disconnected the cable box power cord for a few minutes, reconnected it, allowed the cable box to reinitialize. Turned off receiver and TV. Turned TV back on and set it to HDMI connection, turned on receiver and all worked fine. Great picture and sound.( Needed to buy an optical cable to go from the cable box to the receiver to get sound from the speaker system. )--the dirtybird
http://www.retrevo.com/s/Denon-AVR-1803-Receivers-review-manual/id/363bh838/t/1-2/ please have a look in user manual above. regarding your dvd check for yellow socket named dvd video in----or change your video cable.
lets see, 3100 has no digital out, so you need analog inputs for the audio. Best picture with the 3100, use S-video. Digital input for the DVD sound and S-video in for picture. OOPS....does your TV have a S-Video input ?. If not then you have to use the RCA standard video type connector, as this particular denon doesnt do up or down conversion to or from S-video to old style RCA.
Sorry for the late response.....Rob
PS.....the HD bell wont do you any good with this receiver nbecause it doesnt have component video inputs. Enjoy Bells' superior picture with regular TV . Its way better than cable. Rob
