Question about Electrical Supplies

1 Answer

I have three upstairs bedrooms that are all on the same circuit. My sister tried to plug in something to an outlet in her bedroom and it seems that she jiggled the plug into the outlet and the power went out to everything on that circuit. When I checked the circuit breaker box, the breaker for that circuit was not tripped. I turned it off and on again just in case but the power will not return. All of the outlets on that circuit have had the electrical appliances unplugged so I do not believe that the circuit is being affected by too much draw. What other diagnosis could there be?

I know this may have already been checked, but make sure that any gfci may have not tripped, and also, reset all the breakers if the gfci thing doesn't work... Trust me i know it is annoying but resetting all of the breakers almost always fixes the problem.

Hi I have the 42 inch Sony Bravia in my bedroom. The picture upstairs in the bedroom is too big for the tv if that makes sense.

Hello. It's not a picture setting, it's a format, or picture size setting. Look for a button on the remote labeled Format, or Size, or Zoom, or something similar. You want to select 16:9, or Full, or whatever fills the screen without zooming.

No power in back bedroom

Locate your circuit panel, and check your fuses/circuit breakers.
Maybe breaker tripped?
To reset, remember: All the way to OFF position first, then flip towards ON.

Outlets in bedroom aren't working

Check the breaker box. Also check your GFI plug ins an make sure they did not pop. It will be in the bathroom but the bedroom may be on the same circuit. Push the red rest button. If neither of those things work then I would replace the circuit breaker at the box. First ensure with a meter that you have power at all points.

Circuit breaker is fine but still no power on one bedroom. PG&E said it might be a bad plug/outlet.

Turn off the circuit breaker and locate the plugs that are on that circuit. There is a good chance that the problem is between the closest working and faulty outlet. Starting with what appears to be the last working outlet on the circuit, check that all the wires are secure in all the fixtures and outlets.
If that does not fix the problem, a varmint may have chewed through a wire inside the wall. If you do not have experience with home wiring, you should get an electrician.

THere is no electricity in the bedrooms and I can't get them back on?

If the circuit breaker will not reset - all the way off and then back on with a click sound. Then something you have plugged into the outlets in those rooms is probably shorted causing an over current condition. If the circuit breaker won't reset, shut off all lights and then unplug EVERYTHING and then see if it will reset. If it does, then replug everything one at a time until the electricity goes off again, that is the bad apple. But if it won't reset, then your breaker is probably bad. Yes, they do go bad, just infrequently.

I have 110 voltage to all circuit breakers but no power to outlets in 2 bedrooms .

Check at the output side of the breakers with a voltmeter. Make sure that a white neutral wire didn't get hooked to a breaker. You may need to pull the outlets in the bedrooms to see if they are wired correctly. Good luck!

Fridge tripping breaker, ice maker shorting out

Sounds like you have a short in the freezer .Double check all electrical wires with a meter .
I would also check on that bedroom outlet because sounds like that outlet is not grounded
