My Garmin Fishfinder 240 Blue stopped displaying the depth in feet. In that location on the display is what looks like morse code "--.-" (Dash, Dash, Dot, Dash). Is this a Garmin error mesage? Thanks, Tom

I do not believe this is a software issue. I have allready done the suggested steps. Isn't there a way to determine what the "--.-" instead of a number means/

The --.- indicates that either the unit isn't receiving a signal from the transducer or the signal is out of the range for the unit/display.

Is the Depth Set on Auto Range and what happens if you change it to a Set Range?

How do i find water depth

Water depth should show automatically on your sonar page.
if it does not then either you have selected "stop sonar" under your sonar options or you have opted to turn off the depth displayou so the numbers don't show up.
if you areally viewing your GPS or split screen sonar/GPS page, sometimes the depth display is not visible on these pages unless you specifically instruct the unit to display it.

Garmin 300c fishfinder will go from correct depth to 0.0 ft while traveling.Have to turn it off and restart. It is on Hurricane deck boat 198. It is located between engine and leveling tabs.

My experience as a user is that turbulence around the transducer can cause mine to flash and the depth to remain static. Is your fault affected by speed? Sounds to me that you have a faulty connection causing the transducer to "not register". I'd check connections and also the integrity of the transducer. Hope that helps...
Best of luck

Lowrance x96 does not function after 20 feet depth

Your transducer needs to be adjusted so the return signal can be picked up. Some of these have to be super tuned to receive the signal. Also the transducer may be moving ever so slightly when the boat is traveling at speed. You may have some water turbulence interference all contibute to signal return.

Garmin Fishfinder 160 will not display bottom contours and does not display depth continuously.

Change your setting from saltwater to fresh water even if you fish in sea water, your transducer is a 00/200KHZ and not a 50/200KHZ.
Good luck

Garmen 240 fishfinder

A test bucket wont work, A 200 khz transducer will generally not work in anything less than 2' of water, due to surface clutter. If the transducer is working, you should hear it make a ticking sound.

When you got the 17000 foot reading was your range set to auto?

How is the transducer situated on the boat? Sometimes turbulence and bubbles from the hull can cause erroneous readings, including unrealistic depths, or no depth at all. Stop the boat and turn off the engin e and anything electrical to see if problem repeats itself. If it only crops up when the boat is moving then it is most likely the transducer location.
