The monitor has no influence here - something is wrong with your video card: either its driver is missing (or corrupted) or the video chip has failed.
Uninstall all the drivers for the video(except the generic VGA one), from Programs and Device Manager

and reboot several times then go to Dell

select your pc and get the correct driver.
If that doesn't fixes it then the video chip has failed, you will need to buy a new video card.
· open Control Panel and select Display menu and open it
· Then select Settings Tab from where you can change resolution and Color quality as 32 bit /64 bit

If you want to switch in 256 color

I tried that, didn't help... then I went into BIOS and found out my video buffer was only set to 1MB. >.< Changed it to 8MB, and now I've got 32-bit color at 1280x1024. I appreciate your help either way, thank you.
