My dishwasher is a little more than three years old. The detergent release isnt working. I usually used "pods", I have tried liquid as well and it is still not working. How might I fix this?

Try using a liquid dishwasher detergent.

Also, if you are using dry detergent (that is not pre-measured in pods, etc.), you may be overfilling the detergent dispenser. When the dry detergent gets wet, it swells and causes the detergent dispenser door to stick.

There should be a filter in the bottom under the spray arm. There should be 4 to 8 screws to remove to get to the filter, and clean.

If your model has a JETDRY rinse agent dispenser be sure to use it..if it does not have that dispenser and just only the detergent dispenser use the JETDRY in the dry version that is in a little basket and hangs on the upper rack.

just fill the same holder that you would use for powder.

the spring that tensions the lid is broken or otherwise not working. I would look at the hinge side of the dispenser and see if spring is still intact. When you release the lid, it should snap open without much difficulty so if it doesn't do that, then I would suspect the spring.

Have you tried :
-Increasing the water temperature?
-Changing you dishwasher detergent from a powder to a liquid?
-Using a longer cycle?
-Using diswasher cleaner? I find that this is usually the answer. You can buy it in the grocery store where they sell dishwasher soap and rinse aids. Read directions and follow closely. If you have hard or well water you may want to do this more often then the package directs. Depending on how bad the calcum buildup it may take a couple tries to clear up the dirty dish issue.

is it liquid or powder? we had this problem with cascade powder.... tried liquid cascade and the same thing happened even though i'd been using cascade for YEARS.... manual said could be detergent was "old" and beyond its shelf-life, or that we used too much or too little (go figure that one out LOL).... not trying to promote a brand here, but we switched to palmolive ECO gel and haven't had a problem since -- no goop left in dispenser!.... hope that helps... -cynthia :)

Using liquid detergent is the worst detergent to use. One possible solution to your problem could be as follows...pour 2 cups of vinegar in to the tub and run it on the hottest longest cycle with no dishes in it. May need to do this several times (3 to 4). This will clean the residue out and what ever "gunk" may be in the internal parts. Use Only powder detergent. No gel, no liquid and no tabs. These 2 cause a build-up over a period of time of use and reduce the performance of your machine. This should take care of your problem.
