Which capacitor to use with Carrier 38CKC036 Air Conditioner?

Capacitors are rated uf and voltage (35uf 5uf 370 volt) should be right for your unit but the size will be on the old capacitor.

The capacitor for the fan motor is bad...change that first and then do the motor if that don't help...

If the fan is humming and not running them it has gone bad....it will need to be replaced...not all that difficult a job...most pro's do it in less then an hour...

If the humming is your compressor running (feel the large copper line going into the unit, it should feel cold aftter a few minutes of run time) then the fan motor or the capacitor or both need to be replaced, check for voltage to the fan motor when the unit is "humming" if it has voltage and will not start replace the fan motor and the capacitor. hope this helps.

Hello, this is one of 2 items...the motor itself, or the start capacitor. The capacitor is responsible for boosting the motor to get it started. Follow the wires from the motor and they will lead to an oval or round cylinder. Check the cylinder for any bulging or leaking oil. When the motor should be running, reach in with a stick or ruler and try to assist the fan to get going. If the it feels resistant...it is most likely bd motor. If it trys to start and feels smooth it is most likely capacitor.

What exactly does it do? If it buzz and don't turn a starting capacitor will not help, this is an indiction of a shorted motor.

Have you checked your circuit breaker? Capacitors are located in side the unit in the control box. TURN OFF THE POWER. you need a capacitor checker i assume you have one if not have a qualified service person check it out you'll be money ahead in most cases. good luck Tom
