The USM trick allows you totreat your H10 as an external hard drive. Then it is easy to copy the musicback to your PC using explorer.

The details for the USMtrick are taken from mistic river.

Most people agree that theUMS trick is a great thing to know how to do. With it, you can transfer music,OR treat your H10 as a harddrive to put anything you want on. The UMS trickwill also allow you to use your H10 with virtually any OS.

5/6 GB MTP Models

1. Make sure your H10 is turned off anddisconnected from the computer.
2. Take out the battery, wait a second, andput the battery back in.
3. Turn on the hold switch (so that youdon't accidentally turn the H10 on all the way).
4. Plug the H10 into your computer.
5. Turn on the H10 while holding the"O" button.
6. You will see the message "UMSMode" if you have done everything correctly. You can now let go of the"O" button.

20 GB MTP Models

2. Poke the "reset" button with apaperclip.
3. Turn on the hold switch (so that youdon't accidentally turn the H10 on all the way).
4. Plug the H10 into your computer.
5.Turn on the H10 while holding the "O" button.
6. You will see the message "EmergencyConnection" if you have done everything correctly. You can now let go ofthe "O" button.

UMS Models

UMS models do not need thistrick because they are always in UMS mode!

Just to add to this. When you load files onto the iRiver in UMS mode, you won't be able to access them as you normally do. To find the files you loaded using drag and drop (not Media Player or Music Manager) you will need to go to the BROWSER on your player. This will allow you to access all the files on the player.

******
I am not a computer person. I am a very busy, super simple person that just wants to load music and go! I use a Mac OSx and recently bought an iRiver H10 5gb player at an auction. After days of research, I finally got the player to work with the Mac. Mind you, all the info I found was scattered all over the internet, in various downloaded files, masked with confusing directions, etc.

My steps are not hard, and I apologize if I am not using the proper lingo, not trying to offend, I just want to play music!

So, If you are having a problem using your iRiver h10 with your Mac, then these are the steps I took:

1. While the iRiver is off, plug in the usb cable to the unit and the Mac.
2. While holding the select button ("0" key) turn the iRiver on. You should see a black bar at the top of the window on the unit quickly followed by the words "USB Busy do not disconnect". Now you can release the buttons and your iRiver is in USM mode ..basically it is now an external drive. IF it doesn't go into the mode, turn it off remove the battery and try it again.
3. Drag any file into the Music folder.
4. Eject the player
5. Unplug the player from the Mac and scroll down to the browser.

The browser function will allow you to navigate all the files on your player. You will be able to view images, play music and display all the text files without switching modes. BUT..advanced features will NOT be available, such as genre searching, slide shows, etc... BUT you can play music! All I wanted to do anyway.. If you want all these features....I am still working on it.

EasyH10, iTuneMyWalkman, Windows media player and iRiver Music Manager are all loaded on my Mac. If I ever figure out how to get them to recognize the iRiver when it is in UMS mode, I will report back....otherwise, I will scramble my own music before loading it and just dance.

The iRiver E100 uses iRiver Plus 3 to manage music, pictures, and more. iRiver Plus 3 can be downloaded for free here:

  1. Insert the installation CD into your PC to display the installation process screen.
  2. Select iriver plus 3 and click the Install button.
  3. Complete the installation process by following the on-screen instructions.
  4. Turn on the iRiver E100, and then plug it in to the computer using the USB cable.
  5. Open iRiver Plus 3.
  6. Select the desired files / folders in your PC and drag & drop Music, pictures, etc. to the drive which appears as the product.

Question about transferring files from computer hard drive.

Is your other drive an external or an internal drive??? If external then attach it to the USB port and see it as an additional drive in My Computer. Then you can use it as any other drive.
If an internal drive then you will have to purchase an adapter that can take this drive and get connected to the PC/laptop to through the USB port. Again visible on My Computer as additional drive and can be used such.

Iriver won't let me upload from CDs and transfer....

Best way to use the H10 20gb is by creating a directory on your hard drive with your desired mp3 format files. Use ripping and encoding software with your existing audio cds.
Connect the h10 to the PC via the UMS trick (see this website).

Using a file directory on your pc, drag and drop the mp3 files from your pc to the MUSIC file folder on the h10. Install and run the EASY10 playlist creator software on your pc to organize the new files on your iRiver player. Disconnect the USB connection and enjoy!
