Try spraying WD40 down into the blade holder. The pin which holds the blade may be sticking.

Toro self propelled mower. blade won't stay tight

Use a block of wood to hold blade stationary while tightening bolt. Ensure threads are cleaned with a wire brush before tightening. Is there a spacer or washer missing?

Is there a lever or a pin for locking the blade so I can change the blade with ease?

I don't think there is a locking pin or lever for the blade, but it works very well to use a block of wood on the table in front of the blade. It's a lefty thread.
Good luck, be safe!

I've borrowed a circular saw (v old B+D 1 HP model). Can't loosen spindle bolt to remove blade: the blade is locked with a pair of locking pliers against the guard, but when I turn the spindle bolt...

you just have to look for little button close to blade, smash it, hold it while you move the blabe till gets stuck then you're ready to loose the blade! hope this help

Why won't the blade stay on the wheels of my

You need to adjust the tracking, at the very least. Get a user's manual and it will describe the procedure to adjust the wheels to keep the blade tracking properly. If it's a used saw, it's possible the previous owner didn't maintain it properly and you'll have to replace the rubber, or even a wheel (possible but very unlikely).

Can't get the blade to stay on track

There is an adjustment you can make to the top guide wheel to make the blade stay on track. There is a screw with a lock nut just beneath the main bearing for the top wheel that is used to "tilt" that wheel to allow the blade to stay where it is suppose to. This needs adjustment periodically due to normal wear in the bearings or maybe due to a blade which is made a little different than the last one that was on there. Loosen the lock nut, then turn the adjusting screw to tilt the wheel in the direction needed to keep the blade on. Not much adjustment is usually needed. After turning the screw, jog the motor on briefly (with the blade on) and check how it runs. Keep adjusting until you get it running true. Lock the nut and you should be good.
Good Luck. Be Careful while jogging the motor to check the runout, as you will need to do this with the guards out of place.
