Frigidaire humming freezer not cold enough

6 year old freezer frs26r2a model. Buzzing every few minutes. Dusted/vacuumed out all areas. Fan is running compressor is hot

  • sc341 Sep 09, 2008

I have a 25 year old Frigidaire 14 cubic foot FPT14TML2 which was making a loud noise off and on for the past few months. Then the compressor quit working. I can't find a replacement compressor online. I wonder if Frigidaire still even makes the part. My model has the freezer on the top and fridge on the bottom. It was otherwise a good fridge.

For the 25 year old freezer: a replacement compressor of the same BTU rating can be obtained and used as a replacement BUT at 25 years old I DO Not recommend the expense of a compressor replacement.

To the owner of the six year old freezer. The buzzing noise is more than likely the compressor cycling on its overload protector. This is an indication that the compressor has failed. In this case also I do not recommend replacing the compressor. If it was in warranty the manufacturer would bear the cost. Replacement compressor come with a one year warranty.

HELP! Frigidaire Fridge FRS26HF7BB0 losing coldness and buzzing

That noise is typical when the compresor is trying to start but it doesn't , it could be the condensing fan motor that doesn't work and the compresor goes off on overload ; a common problem with this compresors is the relay (mounted at the side of the compresor behind a black plastic cover) goes bad , this you can replace is about $20 , and if still the compresor won't start you will need to put another one and this is an expensive job.

REFRIGERATOR IS MAKING A BUZZING SOUND, not cooling

You have one of two problems going on. Your fan is spinning at hitting the sides. Or your compressor is shot which seems to be more the problem and even though it is cold the humming sound is a warning for you that the compressor is shot and it is more affordable to replace the fridge then the compressor. Sometimes compressor can cost more then the fridge.

Fan running,both cold settings at 4 , freezer 14 degrees C

you need to replace the start components on the compressor, theres a relay that mounts on to the compressor that takes out the start winding after it starts the compressor up. You can also try whats called a three in one to try to start up the unit. Good Luck.

Freezer defrosted but refrigerator still works

Sounds like the compressor is not running properly. It will overheat and shut off, then restart after a few minutes when it cools off. Check the coils (on back or under) to make sure they are clean. You can do this with a vacuum, or a can of compressed air from the store.

Frigidaire side-by-side model # FRS26H5ASB4 making humming or buzzing noise

I had the same problem. I found the buzzing noise was caused by ice build up around the fan motor inside the freezer. I believe water must have leaked down around the fan during a defrost cycle. I removed the ice maker, the ice cube bin and ice dispenser auger motor. It sounds complicated, but it isn't too bad. The ice maker and auger are connected with quick connect plugs. So just unplug, remove the screws and remove them from the freezer. You will need to remove several other screws as well, I believe 11 in total as well as the top freezer rack. This will give you access to the white aluminum panel that runs from the top of the freezer to about halfway down the back of the freezer. After you remove the aluminum panel you will see the fan about half way down the freezer. I found a lot of ice around my fan. The fan blades were hitting the ice causing the buzz. Remove the ice and the buzzing is gone. It took me an hour to complete this repair. I hope this helps.

Frigidaire gallery frigde is not cooling

If you never hear fan running in freezer, this could be the case. How old is this unit? Newer ones have a electronic defrost board. Older ones have a mechanical defrost timer.
If the fan in the freezer is on, and not getting cold...could be a compressor, or the relay/overload on the compressor. You'll need to check for voltage at the 2 wires at compressor. Should have about 110 volts when the freezer fan is on. If you have 110, Unplug unit and remove relay/ overload from compressor and shake it. If it rattles, you probably need the relay/overload. If this unit is only a few years old, it may be a compressor. We see these fail on these. Does it make a load hum for less than a minute followed by a click. And then after a bit, does it again. This is usually a bad compressor.
